AIBU to not be bothered

Our neighbours on one side don't cut the grass in their back garden - they are keeping it as a wildlife/wildflower garden and it's full of lovely flowers and so on. Their front garden is immaculate. The neighbours on their other side hate it and have put a note through my door asking me if I mind and would I send a joint note to them asking them to cut the grass.
If I was bothered I'd go and talk to them.

YANBU
It's up to them what they wish to do regarding their back garden as long as it isn't stopping others from using their gardens.
The neighbour who sent the note sounds uptight to me.

floraloctopus · 12/05/2019 16:58

I think they are uptight, yes. I'm surprised they bothered asking us as I garden organically and have a wildlife pond in my garden so am more likely to prefer our mutual neighbour's garden to their manicured lawn and slug pelleted flower beds.

Nah. I wouldn't be involved with that either. Plus it's spineless to leave a note. I'd give your neighbours a heads up just in case you get added in anyway on the request and knock on the door of the mutual neighbour saying you personally have no problem with the wildflower garden.

floraloctopus · 12/05/2019 17:10

That's a good point, I'll have a chat with them later.

Isn't that a haven for rats, leaving it to be over grown?

Is it really full of flowers and looking lovely or is it just an over grown shit looking lawn, as wild flower meadows are notoriously hard to manage to grow, and in the winter it just looks shit.

However if you're not bothered, don't say anything.

floraloctopus · 12/05/2019 17:13

They don't have rubbish lying around. It's full of bluebells, poppies and so on at the moment.

Bluntness100 · 12/05/2019 17:19

Bluebells should be dying by now, ours have, poppies don't usually have their first flowers till June, with them mainly flowering in July and August, so they have done well If they have a garden full of both now.

BelindasGleeTeam · 12/05/2019 17:24

Californian poppies are flowering on road verges here

My bluebells are still gorgeous and I have numerous poppies in my wildflower garden at the moment. I suppose it depends on varieties and where you live.

I wouldn’t get involved OP, as others have said it’s a bit spineless of the neighbours to put a note through a door.

Drum2018 · 12/05/2019 17:25

I wouldn't give the heads up to NDN. That's like telling tales. Just ignore the note from the other neighbour and if they bother to actually speak to you about it, tell them the garden doesn't bother you.

floraloctopus · 12/05/2019 21:20

They've got yellow poppies and red ones, they have just flowered plus the bluebells. That and several lovely trees and buddleia. Arabuella, lovely to hear you have a wildflower garden :-)

PutyourtoponTrevor · 12/05/2019 21:23

My bluebells and poppies have been flowering for a month or so and more and more seem to be appearing

WeeDangerousSpike · 12/05/2019 21:26

Bluebells and californian poppies are out in force here (SW). Not sure I remember seeing them together before though, now you mention it.

MatthewBramble · 12/05/2019 21:31

Our bluebells are still thriving as are our yellow poppies (in fact I was worried this thread was about our garden).

Still18atheart · 12/05/2019 21:34

Your neighbours garden sounds lovely. The only note I would be signing is commenting on the fact it looks lovely and to watch out/give a heads up for the manicured lawn pesticide addicts on the other side of them

HappyHammy · 12/05/2019 21:34

I love wildlife gardens, ignore the note, if they have an issue with it let them speak to neighbour.

Passthecherrycoke · 12/05/2019 21:36

Your neighbour can’t possibly think they can tell the other neighbour how to keep their own back garden?! What a weirdo!

MrsCakeTheMedium · 12/05/2019 21:37

YANBU at all. We need more gardens like theirs for bees and other insects and wildlife. I personally think wild gardens are lovely. What on earth makes the other neighbour think they have the right to demand someone else cuts their grass in their own garden because they don't like it? That's straying towards CF territory in my book.

floraloctopus · 12/05/2019 21:59

NDN but one are a combination of Hyacinth Bucket and Margot from the Good Life. Next door are the hippie wildlife lovers (and great neighbours), we're a bit in between as I like a nature friendly but tidy garden.

OP posts:
bluedoor4 · 12/05/2019 22:21

I wish our NDN had a wild meadow garden! They have what is basically a junkyard, full of scrap metal, wood, plastic, old motorbikes, broken furniture.
We are on friendly terms and I don't ask them about it, as unfortunately it's not my business 🤷🏻‍♀️
