AIBU to ask for a high impact sports bra that actually works

I want to get fit. I’m fat and it’s getting me down. I currently only have one sports bra and the place that I got it from has turned crap in that their ‘high support’ is no longer high support. Other sports bras leave me with side boob. I’ve looked on the normal Adidas / Nike etc and when you read reviews a lot of them say that it’s no good for running but normal training. Some sites seem to have some decent ones but they’re £60 upwards! AIBU to want a decently priced, keep everything in place so I don’t end up with painful boobs or black eyes sports bras?! Where do you all get yours from?

shock absorber is good - buy a cup size down

I also like Next High Impact ones (again a cup size down) - I run and trampoline so I need to keep things still!

Less Bounce used to do a good variety and were super helpful if you emailed queries and asked for advice - good luck!

My G cup boobs broke my £42 Shock Absorber within a couple of months, the hooks are not up to the job at all and all three sets had become unusable in that time. Freya is faring better - so far, we’re a month in and no bending hooks.

Freshprincess · 12/05/2019 14:29

Shock absorber. Not cheap but worth it.

The band is tight, for obvious reasons, so you may need to go up a size.

Baloonphobia · 12/05/2019 14:33

If you want results in this dept you'll have to shell out I'm afraid. Cheap sports bras for the better endowed of us are a false economy. I've thrown out many. I'm a shock absorber fan too.

Loopytiles · 12/05/2019 14:36

I find the shock absorber bras good, but the clasps tricky, and the hooks etc are not well made and over time rub.

megletthesecond · 12/05/2019 14:37

Shock absorber and then a cheap Primark one layered over the top.

Ninkaninus · 12/05/2019 14:39

Shock absorbers need to be tight btw. You should only be able to put two fingers up under the back band, and the straps should only be able to stretch up about an inch over your shoulders (I used to work in a sports and fitness shop).

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/05/2019 14:40

Lessbounce changed it's name, it us now the aforementioned cringeworthy Boobydoo!!!

And yes, go for last seasons colours, far cheaper whichever brand you end up preferring.

Have fun looking!

Yet another vote for shock absorber but it HAS TO BE the Ultimate Run Bra as that's the one with an extra clasp higher up the back. Debenhams always have a good range in stock so you can try them on and often have them on special offer.

EZA15 · 12/05/2019 14:57

Thank you again! Sorry, it wasn’t clear in my op, I actually don’t mind spending a bit more if it works. It just means I’ll be buying one and washing more often as opposed to two. I’ve just looked at boobydoo and there are a few good ones that I’ve seen! Will be looking properly tonight. I have some exams in a couple of weeks and should be revising but my head’s ‘full’

Bear in mind it will wear out more quickly and become less effective if you only have one and have to wash it constantly.

startalovetrain · 12/05/2019 15:00

I have wasted hundreds on sports bras

Then I found the Boobuddy/booband on Amazon and it's amazing.

It's like a band you wrap around the top of your boobs all the way round and it kinda straps them down. I wear them with any old sports bra and it keeps them in place even when running!

Takes a couple of attempts to get used to it but I think it was about £20 and free returns if you don't like it. Definitely recommend trying!

CMOTDibbler · 12/05/2019 15:11

I like Panache and Freya best - I have never found a Shock Absorber that actually fitted me. I have approx eleventy billion sports bras, and often buy them on ebay as often people buy them, wear them once and find they don't fit right, and it saves me doing the same, so its really worth doing

frenchknitting · 12/05/2019 15:12

I find 2 cheap bras are better than my best shock absorber.

MissBridgetJones · 12/05/2019 15:14

M&S bras never really fit me properly- but their front opting zip up sports bra is epic. I sized up a band and down a boob. You even get a bit of clevage!!!

EZA15 · 25/05/2019 15:52

Thank you everyone. Sorry I’ve not been on, I’ve had exams so put most of my effort into that —I’ve still failed though — I’ve bought a couple from Boobydo. I’ll let you know how I get on!
