AIBU To be anxious when the sun is out?

It feels more pressured especially with children.

Anyone else?

BlueMerchant you are my twin.
And sorry to say it's no different when you're old.

*Some people feel pressured to 'do' stuff and not 'waste' the good weather when it is blue skied and clement.

However, a day catching up on rest, pottering around with chores, or just relaxing and listening to music are all days well spent too.*

I needed to read this this morning, so thank you. I can identify with what you mean OP but more so on the weekends I don't have the kids as I feel pressured to 'make the most of it'

Be kind to yourself, whatever form that takes.

Bold fail... Confused

There is no pressure. Society isn't pressuring you to go to the beach. The pressure is from yourself knowing you should make the most of it. Its not about going out to stay in the sun as long as possible, it's to make the most of dry days and get out and about and do stuff without the added shit of wet and soggy stuff.

I personally think it’s healthy to get out for a bit most days.
If your kids like going out then just take them out for a bit then spend the rest of the time at home. You don’t have to do epic day trips.
Have a list of places where you could get out to and back fairly quickly and just choose from there.
I don’t see the point of just staying in and then feeling guilty about it.
Go out and have some fun with the kids and then enjoy being in.

I totally get what you mean. I used to feel much worse about it when we lived in a flat, now if it’s sunny and I don’t feel like going I have a garden day ... at least I’m in the sun!

I had a colleague who used to say the same. She said that she hated the summer because she always felt like she had to be out of the house so couldn’t relax!

You are not alone Smile

I feel I should be outside when the sun is out. Usually end up doing useful stuff indoors, wishing I was outside, but thinking I can be outside tomorrow.

Then tomorrow arrives and it is raining and I feel bad for missing the nice weather.

Thanks again

Yeah. I'm on mat leave and the first 6 months being winter meant Starbucks for hot chocolate and Netflix at home were fine. Now I feel like I should be marching DS out into the sunshine but actually a) everywhere is rammed with older children who wake him up when napping, b) green spaces have nowhere to park as everyone goes on the same days, c) wasps and d) summer dresses give me chapped thighs.

echt · 11/05/2019 22:15

I wonder if this is also a function of the unpredictable weather, so pressure to make the most of it.

bridgetreilly · 11/05/2019 22:17

YABU. You get to make the decisions about what you and your family do, no matter what the weather is like. No pressure. Just do what suits all of you.

Tiredtessy · 11/05/2019 22:31

I know exactly what you mean! It’s like it’s Sunny and we all have to be outside all day when it might not suit or might not want to be!

Girlicorne · 11/05/2019 22:46

Don't feel pressured OP, just do what you want to do. If you want to stay home then do it whether it's sunny or not. Personally I love the summer, we have one day a year where we stay home and do nothing (27th December) but going out is much more fun and cheaper on a sunny day! I appreciate our lifestyle isn't for everyone though.
