Fleas - advice please

So I lived in a property, had two cats. My cats were flea treated without fail every month.

I’ve moved out of that house, into my new one with carpets. No fleas in the new house. Nothing. I get eaten alive on holiday by mozzies etc if anyone was going to get bitten it’s me.
New tenant moved into the old house, complained she and her kids were being bitten. I did the right thing and paid for a professional to go round and treat the whole house. Tenant then left the property unattended for a few weeks went back to the house, I guess turned the heating on, the body heat etc. fleas are apparently back. Phoned flea treatment company again who are coming out again free of charge to fumigate. But he’s saying he never saw a flea whilst he was there. I was there too in shorts and T-shirt’s, the guy made a joke because we obviously thought there were fleas at that point that I was going to get munched. Nothing.
I honestly do not know what more I can do ... I’m happy to pay of course I am, and if it would make a difference rip all the carpets up and start again. Anyone else had and conquered this ?

Take a shallow bowl and fill with water. Drop of washing up liquid. Put close to where you think the fleas are, with a light shining into it. The fleas are, attracted to the light and jump into the water and drown. The washing up liquid breaks the surface tension of the water otherwise the flea would not sink into the water. It's not an effective method of flea control, but it does prove if you have fleas or not. At tge peak of our horror outbreak we were getting about 15 every night Shock

Hold on... Do you own the first property or did you rent and have since moved? If you just rented, why are you responsible for any treatment? Also, the new tenants might have bed bugs, not fleas.

Inliverpool1 · 10/05/2019 19:16

Owned, still own it hence taking full responsibility, I’m horrified

However this is my concern, how far does that responsibilitie stretch I mean I’ll try the water bowl idea too - thanks for that cathf

Have their possessions been checked for bed bugs? If it is fleas, they would be very easy to find.

Inliverpool1 · 10/05/2019 19:26

No, I will mention it but they were living with parents with dogs in their last home, which did make me wonder. I mean at first I was just mortified and apologetic but

You have fumigated once, I bet there are not fleas. Get them to prove it

Louiselouie0890 · 10/05/2019 20:17

I know when a family member moved into a new place it had fleas. Thought they'd have to move out while fumigated but the guy said you had to stay in to keep them active so the poison can take affect.?

Louiselouie0890 · 10/05/2019 20:18

Also not 100 percent but sure you had to have it more than once after so long

Inliverpool1 · 10/05/2019 20:34

The flea man said, if they’ve not been in the house so not active they wouldn’t be vacuuming them up and so the cycle starts again .... it’s really hard to know who to trust/believe

And when I went round the house was a shit tip, food in the bedroom etc. none of my business I know but that can’t help overall

It can happen - it did to me when my house was being treated for subsidence so I had to move into rented.
The place was riddled with fleas. It took two visits (on the second one I asked them to spray the bed too), to shift them.

Inliverpool1 · 10/05/2019 20:47

@mineofuselessinformation did the second time work please ?

Yes.

gamerchick · 10/05/2019 21:03

Put some insect monitors down. They'll sharp tell you if there is any or not.

DingDongDenny · 10/05/2019 21:58

Get a couple of these: www.amazon.co.uk/Zero-Powered-Effective-Targets-Bedding/dp/B00HW1GBRG/ref=asc_df_B00HW1GBRG/?hvlocphy=1006894&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&psc=1&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvadid=230204386967&hvpone&hvlocint&th=1&hvpos=1o1&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=pla-451431010517&hvrand=1811759305412181010

We had fleas and these were really good at both killing fleas, but also letting us know when we were rid of them - once we were clear for a week that was it

Thank you
