AIBU to think that it's not usual to wear sunscreen all the time?

Leading on from another thread of mine in which I asked for recommendations for a tinted moisturiser without sunscreen in it (due to skin reacting), I was surprised that it seemed to be very much a given that one would wear sunscreen every day.

Now, I don't think I know of anyone who slathers sunscreen on their whole family every single day of the year. It might well be that it's included in a daily face cream for some, so they are getting it by default, but I don't put any on my children until we get to proper summer, hot sunny days etc and they are outside way more than me.
My husband also would only ever put it on if we're spending the day outside in summer. We live in Germany, so climate is similar to UK for much of the year.

So my question is: do you (as in your whole family) wear sunscreen all year round?

I have red hair, freckles and blue eyes. I would be bonkers not to wear sunscreen! It's in my moisturiser and makeup, but both were chosen because they have spf. I'm not likely to get tickets, but skin cancer is a distinct possibility - not to mention looking like a scrumpled up tissue in a few years time. I'd rather avoid both those things if at all possible.

There’s not enough UVA protection in standard moisturisers or foundation. You need a separate SPF with a high UVA rting.

Interesting interview on This Morning highlighting how there is a big increase in Ricketts in kids. Also lack of 20mins sunshine a day for adults results in Vit D deficiency leading to MS and Cancers.
Hard to find a good balance between that and burning though.

The tinted moisturiser I use has a 5 star UVA rating. No 7 City Light.

Well yesterday in the park for 2 hours I wore boots no7 protect & perfect facial sun cream spf30 on my face, neck & décolletage.

All fine.

But omg stupid me wore a short dress & didn't bother about sun lotion on my arms & legs. I mean it was a bit cloudy & quite breezy.
Now I'm red & painful with sunburn all down my left arm & leg! Got to wear a short sleeved tunic tomorrow at work so everyone will see how stupid I've been!!

I think my foundation has a low spf in but I don't wear anything separate every day. I get awful whiteheads and breakouts when I use sun cream a lot.

I am careful when I'm out in the sun though, I hate being burned so do wear spf 50.

It’s not that hard to find a balance. You put spf 50 on your face every day, this prevents ageing.

During April to October (in this country) you expose arms and legs (which are a larger area than your face and absorb more sunlight and therefore you produce more vitamin D) for 20 mins ish (depending on
skin type) with no cream.

It’s not mutually exclusive! You can prevent ageing on your face yet still get vitamin D through exposing other areas. Everyone should be supplementing in winter though...

i use spf 50 face cream every single day!!
