Bit of a worrier when it comes to health. I’ve found a small lump in the side of my neck, feels like a bean. Probably a gland but I’m not ill at all not have I been lately. It’s not sore. I’ve got a Dr’s appointment for Monday but I will worry silly til then. Please talk me down a bit!

I had a non painful lump in my neck for over 3 years. Was just a stubborn lymph node

Itsagrandoldteam · 10/05/2019 00:48

My sister had a lump on the side of her neck, turned out to just be a cyst.

Stormy76 · 10/05/2019 00:59

I regularly get lymph nodes come up in my neck, normally accompanied by aching joints and flu like symptoms. It’s your immune system doing what it’s supposed to do, mine immune system isn’t great but it’s t do with an infection I picked up years and years ago that has never gone, it sort of goes dormant for a bit then reappears

YoThePussy · 10/05/2019 01:10

I have one at the moment in the middle of my hairline and forehead, wondering if I am going to turn into a unicorn.

Seriously, started about the size of a small pea and is getting smaller by the day without any intervention from me or a GP.

julensaor · 10/05/2019 01:24

Is it hard, soft or rubbery? Is it painful or painless. Is it on both sides? You have a multitude of lymph nodes in your neck, they could react to anything OP, stop worrying so much. Their whole purpose is to react

LifeofClimb · 10/05/2019 01:27

Lots of lumps are benign. Go and get checked!

I have two lumps currently, and one lump was removed a while ago. Lots of lumps over the years that have been and gone. All benign.

Ereshkigal · 10/05/2019 01:33

A boyfriend had a red inflamed cyst on the side of his neck, it burst. Grim. It went back to normal but left a small scar.

And a friend had to have a lump surgically removed from the back of her neck but again that cleared it up. It wasn't cancerous.

Fannydango · 10/05/2019 07:04

Love you lot! Thank you for your reassurance - I will report back!

My good friend had several in his neck. He was worried, the doctor was worried, he didn’t really look after himself (drugs, binge-drinking) so it would have been no surprise if he’d been seriously unwell. Anyway, he was booked in for a load of scans but then...the lumps disappeared!! He has had no issues since

AdoreTheBeach · 10/05/2019 07:11

Not me but my DH. I found a lump on his neck. He saw GP and had referral to ENT, had tests, scans etc. It was a fatty lump. Comes and goes.

DivisionBelles · 10/05/2019 07:20

I had one at the front of my neck. One day it swelled up and was unbelievably painful. Long story short - turned out that I had a cyst on my thyroid gland that I'd bled into causing it to grow and hurt. Eventually went away in its own and, fingers crossed, I've never had a reoccurrence.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 10/05/2019 07:25

My DM had one for years and never got it checked out. Finally she did and it turned out to be a polyp and was removed easily by the doctor.

thisisthetime · 10/05/2019 07:28

Yep. Had it for 8 years. The first few years I kept going to the doctor and they kept telling me it wasn’t anything to worry about. I kept worrying and googling the worst. I did read though that after 7 years of no other symptoms then it’s likely to be nothing. I don’t worry now 😬

ObvsItsNotMe · 10/05/2019 07:33

Husband had one on the back of his neck. Got it checked in UK, they said..we'll remove in a few years, it's not a problem..we moved to Germany and he had it rechecked, they removed within a week..it was a benign fatty lipoma BUT it was on the verge of growing into his spine. Always best to get it checked thoroughly. Hes completely fine now.

Hutchismo · 10/05/2019 08:12

You're doing the right thing to get it checked out, if nothing else but for your peace of mind. If it's not been there long then chances are it's not a problem. If you have had anything like night sweats or weight loss (unexplained) then make sure you report it to the doc.

TheCraicDealer · 10/05/2019 08:19

DH had a lump in his neck and was referred for a biopsy straight away (Army GP, they don't hang about with referrals)- turned out it was a mild infection of some kind and went back down if it's own accord soon after the needle biopsy.

DMum also had one in her neck and was sent away by the GP- she went back four months later and was then referred for biopsy. It was something more sinister, but treatable. The important thing is to keep an eye on it and if it's still there 6-8 weeks after your GP appointment go back and push for investigations if they don't refer you initially.

JustDanceAddict · 10/05/2019 08:22

I did at uni. I had bloods but nothing was found and it eventually went away. It was there for a good couple of months though.

crosser62 · 10/05/2019 08:31

Me too, just under my ear.
Gp referred me to ENT.

Was small, hard, not at all painful and had grown.

No biopsy, in fact very simple ultrasound scan of the lump by ENT surgeon there and then as I sat in the very ordinary little plastic chair!

He told me there and then that it was absolutely nothing to worry about.
So, I was in and out within about 3 minutes.

Done.

aposterhasnoname · 10/05/2019 08:33

Had a tiny one on my throat, then
literally overnight it swelled to the size of a satsuma. Didn't hurt at all. They reckoned an infected cyst and a round of antibiotics cleared it up.

Crazycrazylady · 10/05/2019 08:38

I have two on my neck . Enlarged lymph nodes that for some reason never went down.. have them 20 years now

Fannydango · 13/05/2019 23:26

Saw GP today. Didn’t think it was anything to worry about but could be a cyst so she’s referred for an ultrasound.

MiniMum97 · 13/05/2019 23:27

I've got Nr of them. Mines at the back on the right It's a calcified gland apparently. Had it since my twenties.

Nicketynac · 13/05/2019 23:45

I had a lump in my neck and one in my groin, night sweats and raised LDH (which is a tumour marker). Turned out to be ??? Who knows. Lasted for years, was monitored by the hospital for years, discharged after a normal CT scan. Every time I get a cold I get multiple swollen glands which take weeks to go down.
Consultant said some people are just "glandy" which sounds like a totally real thing!

Complainingagain · 14/05/2019 02:41

I found one and freaked out. It was nothing. Literally nothing. The doctor didn't even really give me much of an explanation. Apparently it was such a small deal he couldn't even be bothered to explain 😂

Fannydango · 28/05/2019 23:51

So my apptmnt for an ultrasound scan has arrived...but the lump has shrunk to almost nothing. I think it is/was probably a swollen gland. Thinking I should just cancel the scan?
