WWYD? Posting for traffic - Ryan Air

cheesemongery · 09/05/2019 19:38

Sorry posting here for traffic in case I need to buy another ticket quickly - helpline shut at 7....

Earlier I booked flights for me and my 10 year old for Monday 20th, but on receipt I've realised that I have booked 2 adult tickets. Is this a problem? I know the price will still be the same, but am worried we'll get stopped somewhere along the check in line and told - erm she's not an adult and now we need ludicrous amounts of money for you to board.

I know I'm sounding daft, but has anybody else done this? Was their child allowed to board with an 'adult' ticket.

Thank you in advance from a panicky cheesemonger!

Try them on Twitter I’ve found them very helpful there before

ShitAtScarbble · 09/05/2019 19:42

It’s Ryanair. You’re fucked whichever way you turn with those bastards!
I’d like to say you’ll be fine but given the endless bad publicity with that lot the odds aren’t good.
What about Tweeting them?

MegCleary · 09/05/2019 19:47

I booked in my maiden name by accident (had been married years!) tweeted them and they sorted it in a few minutes. If it’s within 24 hours of you booking should be fine.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 09/05/2019 19:48

I’ve done this before and you just need to call them and get it changed.

cheesemongery · 09/05/2019 19:58

It’s Ryanair. You’re fucked whichever way you turn with those bastards!

This was exactly my thinking! What multinational company closes it's helplines at 7pm?

Thanks Meg and Pink, I think I'll call them in the morning, will easily be within 24 hours - otherwise I'll have to set up at Twitter account for the first time Grin.

I just don't want to be told I'll have to buy another ticket and what was £10 is now £97 or something.

They have a live chat function on their website, try that. Despite their reputation , I have found them quite helpful. Changed a ticket for me with no charge when I accidentally booked right day, wrong month.

Turpy · 09/05/2019 20:18

.

cheesemongery · 09/05/2019 20:28

when I accidentally booked right day, wrong month.

Sorry that made me laugh, DD's dad and I booked a trip to Berlin years ago, double/triple checked it - all good. Nope arrive Tues night, go home Weds morning!! Cost us more than the flights to change it!

I looked at the live chat thanks but it said it was a chatbot and couldn't help with specific queries.

OP posts:
Mehmehmeh19 · 09/05/2019 20:31

I did this wouldn't let me check in online I didn't realise until then.
They sorted it over live chat in minutes.
I also got a refund of a few quid. Which from memory was something to do with airport tax.

cheesemongery · 09/05/2019 20:39

Ah okay thank you Meh - I'll have a look at the chat again, if not I'll give them a call tomorrow. I've never had a problem with Ryan Air in the past, but it has been a few years since flying with them!

OP posts:
cheesemongery · 09/05/2019 20:41

Just had another look, the live chat is just chatbot and cannot answer anything specific. I'll update in the morning! Thank you all.

You have to call up and attach the child to the adult ticket. If you don't do it within a certain time limit ( I think 4 hours) you have to pay 30 quid. Then when you get to airport you have to go to check in and get the child's boarding pass. If you don't bother they won't let DC fly. I've just been through this palava myselfConfused

ForalltheSaints · 09/05/2019 21:15

I hope at least you are able to get through to their helpline tomorrow morning.

Please don't fly with them again. Ryanair's CEO Mr O'Leary has horses in that annual example of animal cruelty, the Grand National. If you care about how we treat animals, don't fly with them.

Oh that's a bugger, well it's been over 4 hours as the phone lines shut before that time was up. Cheaper to buy another ticket than £30...

Grrrr thinking of just writing £40 off as a stupid idea!

I care more about my mental health and my daughters mental health following an horrific month. An HORRIFIC month.

Horses hadn't occurred to me, and I don't like or support what he does but seriously just fuck off.

I have always found them excellent with issues like this. I message them through Twitter and they have always replied promptly and positively.

Have also been able to get issues sorted via live chat but only first thing in the morning before there is a queue!

AskMeHow · 09/05/2019 21:31

Is it possible to cancel the booking and rebook?

I once booked some expensive flights and then realised with that awful stomach clenching horror that it was the wrong dates. I rang them in a panic and it turns out there's basically a rule that you can cancel within 24 hours with no penalty, even if they are not refundable. I felt sick with relief after that phone call.

cheesemongery · 09/05/2019 22:01

I'm not sure to both of you. There is definitely only a chatbot now - just pasting 'his' opening message

Hello, I'm the Ryanair ChatBot. I'll try to answer your query quickly.

Please enter your question or enter 'help' for assistance.

I cannot answer questions about specific bookings so please do not enter any personal details or flight information, as per our Privacy Policy

I shall definitely call them in the morning. I booked the tickets about 2pm so well within 24 hours. We shall see!

Rynair policy sounds a lot more generous than Aegean. I booked with Aegean last year and accidently got the first name and surname the wrong way round. Called up with two minutes of making the booking and had to pay a £30 name change fee!

stucknoue · 09/05/2019 22:10

It's only the tax that is different, Ryan air won't care

MegCleary · 10/05/2019 00:06

Ryanair are better than Aegean them for that. A twitter account can be made in a few minutes then ended. Contact and change twitter better thank chat bot they are usually on by 7 am

cheesemongery · 10/05/2019 16:37

Hi thank you for all of the replies. All sorted - the only difference is we need to desk check in instead of online but that's fine as it will save me printer ink :)

We can still prebook our seats, I'm still wondering whether too or not, but then I did have to ask an elderly lady to leave my sons prebooked seat once so he was next to us over the aisle.

Phew - need a break after that Grin

cheesemongery · 10/05/2019 16:38

No charge either - I guess they can be good - sometimes!!

cheesemongery · 10/06/2019 21:55

I just wanted to update this in case anybody else has similar.

All was fine flying out and we had boarding passes printed - no problem. Returning though was a real PITA - they would not let us have boarding passes as Ryan Air had not left a note we had to contact Ryan Air whilst at the airport with 1 hour to boarding and the phone lines weren't even open! Managed to get onto live chat who said when you're at the airport just explain to the desk... I'm at the airport!! Showed desk message who looked confused talked to colleague, got boarding passes. Final check before getting on plane - was questioned again... she is not an adult... I know but...

Lesson learned Grin
