To think Tommee Tippee bottles are not that great?

DS has terrible wind and I think it is to do with the TT bottles/teats, I've heard this from other mums too who have had to change to other teats. Infant feeding specialist at the hospital today also said the same.

Has anybody else experienced this with their DCs? I've ordered MAM anti colic bottles and I'm hoping for an improvement

I agree. No idea why they are so popular. I used MAM bottles with both mine and they were great

incogneto · 09/05/2019 18:20

@mnahmnah i wish I'd have just ordered MAM from the start to be honest

Agree I'm expecting no7 and am a massive fan of MAM

DulcieRay · 09/05/2019 18:30

I think Tommee Tippee are a good starting point for new parents. But I would always advise anyone not to go crazy before babies born, because you never know what bottles baby will get on with. I have heard good things about the Mam bottles though

SheeshKebab · 09/05/2019 18:30

Yeah they're crap. Did nothing to help my son's reflux but MAM are amazing!

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 09/05/2019 18:31

I had to combi feed for a while at the start due to tongue tie/DS not being able to latch until his tongue was snipped, and the midwife recommended MAM bottles to me , 'off the record, from a mum not a midwife', were her words. They were great and DS happily went from bottle to breast and now happy to go back to bottle for expressed milk. SIL used Tommy Tippee and ended up switching to MAM, because DN was during with wind and reflux, she did the MAM bottles made a huge difference. I think TT are a little cheaper, and you often see good deals on starter sets, but it's money wasted when you end up replacing them. I also like how easy MAM ones are to sterilise

Wherearemycrayons · 09/05/2019 18:34

I did exactly the same. Bought the tommee tippee set as it was reasonable, but the bottles are crap so ended up with MAM and can’t fault them. Hope they work well for you

wildwildwest1 · 09/05/2019 18:35

Agreed.

My midwife said most babies don’t get on with them because they are hard to get the milk out of!?

MAM all the way here (and I tried many many bottles in the first few weeks!)

SoHotADragonRetired · 09/05/2019 18:44

Fwiw both of mine have been fine with TT, although both only had occasional bottles of expressed. DS1 hated the Medela Calma fancy teat. We did have to use the Minbie teats with DS2 at 5mo to get him taking a bottle again, but once he accepted those he also took TT no problem.

b0bb1n · 09/05/2019 18:47

Dr Brown's are brilliant. You can get them with an anti-colic vent, my baby also has a special Dr Brown's valve which aids feeding if they have a Cleft palate. They seem like a very specialised brand.

Rockbird · 09/05/2019 18:48

Both of mine used TT bottles and they were absolutely fine. No problem at all, and DD1 was a very windy baby.

FannyFeatures · 09/05/2019 18:51

I bought the Closer to Nature bottles when they first came about in 2006 as a few people had recommended the older style Tommee Tippee ones.

They worked fine for DS but when I bought another set in 2013 for DD she just couldn't get on with them but she was mostly breastfed and I assumed they just didn't agree with her but I've heard a lot of complaints since.

44PumpLane · 09/05/2019 18:52

Agree--I stocked up on TT as live near the TT factory (there used to be an outlet shop there) and gave the twins terrible reflux.
Mam bottles have been brill!

NotMyPuppy · 09/05/2019 18:54

I’m with b0bb1n - dr browns are brilliant for windy babies. My little girl really suffered with wind when using Tommee Tippee, didn’t like them at all.

Nat6999 · 09/05/2019 19:03

I used Avent bottles, never had any problem with collic, the teats were fine, I just moved to the faster flow ones as he got older. I used all of the Avent range, bottles, drinking cups & bottles, dummies & steriliser.

Nat6999 · 09/05/2019 19:05

I used Avent bottles, no problems with wind or collic. I used the full range of Avent, feeding bottles, starter cups, dummies & steriliser.

Nat6999 · 09/05/2019 19:06

Sorry my app is playing up today.

MarinetteDupainCheng · 09/05/2019 19:11

Neither of my two got along with TT Closer to Nature. My first preferred Avent Natural, my second was a bottle refuser for ages but eventually also liked Avent Natural.

olderthanyouthink · 09/05/2019 20:24

I hate the MAM bottles, too many parts but i breastfeed so I resent adding more steps to pull top out of the way, unclip bra and attach baby. BUT they did help get DD back taking a bottle even if she still don't always take one especially from DP because she bent the avent teats out of her mouth but MAM was more like the dummy's she had.

Plus I have an avent pump so it's nice to use the same bottles.

HappyDinosaur · 09/05/2019 20:29

I've found the Tommee Tippee ones pretty good but I do have a very unfussy baby, as long as she is fed she is happy!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 09/05/2019 20:32

I think it’s because they’re usually pretty good value and the brand is so well known.

I knew nothing about bottlefeeding before dc1, but I knew those bottles because of the distinctive shape, so I got some because I didn’t know any better.

They were crap- you have to hold the bottle practically vertically so the baby isn’t sucking on air. Then I found MAM by chance 🙌🏻.

I’m mix feeding dc2 and he can switch between the breast and MAM bottles with no hassle.

Tinyteatime · 09/05/2019 20:36

Yea there are a lot better out there. I used a lansinoh bottle for my mostly b/f babies and they took to those with no problem and no wind/reflux. TT are just the most ‘well known’ brand as they throw so much at advertising. Cue TT reps to flood the thread.

Moominfan · 09/05/2019 20:46

They did the job, never had any problems
