To be worried about this call from the doctors?

Following some heart palpitations I went for an echocardiogram about 4 weeks ago.
I rang the gp for the results a week later and was told by the secretary over the phone that they’d been reviewed and all was fine.
I got a call today asking me to book a ‘routine’ appointment to discuss the results.
The appointment isn’t for 3 weeks!!
I’m worrying a bit now!

In my experience, if was something serious/urgent they wouldn't wait three weeks to see you.
I had a similar thing a few years ago, I was put on beta blockers for a few months and they helped greatly.
Try not to worry too much.

ItchyKondera · 09/05/2019 17:07

yeah they probably just want to talk about general health stuff, eg is it anxiety that caused them. I get palpitations due to anxiety / panic attacks so I would assume they want to check for stuff like that

Probably give you the usual diet / smoking / drinking / exercise advice.

I've had call backs after tests and it is literally "yep all fine call the GP if any more issues" and you wonder why they can't just call you on the phone.

Firstly, if it wasn’t all fine it’s extremely likely you’d have an much earlier appointment. However, blooming secretaries really can’t be saying if these things ‘look fine’ or not - mine said the same about my abdominal scan, and it transpired at my Gl appointment that I have gallstones Hmm. It’s always best to go through it with a doctor to be on the safe side, even for your own peace of mind.

This is one of the few occasions that a 3 week wait is good news. Anything pressing or urgent would see them chasing you to come in immediately.

Confusedbeetle · 09/05/2019 17:16

Dont worry. A non urgent appt. Not the receptionist job to tell you results

HitthefloorforTaintedLove · 09/05/2019 17:26

Try not to worry Annie.

When DH had bad results from a blood test they rang him a few hours later and asked him to come back to see the doctor right away.

The 3 week wait suggests it's not urgent however if it's causing you stress it might be worth asking if a telephone appointment would be available any sooner.
Or does your surgery have online results? Ours does so we can look up results of tests (sometimes we've read them before a GP has).

Aquamarine1029 · 09/05/2019 17:27

If there were something really wrong you'd be in hospital already. You have nothing to worry about.

DontCallMeShitley · 09/05/2019 17:27

I was expected to go back to discuss my results. I had spent so long being kept waiting and having to return due to shortage of equipment that I asked if I could have a phone consultation instead.

It was just to discuss my blood results, things that would affect my heart and results of the echo. etc. If you are worried could you give them a call?

Not NHS but not sure it makes a difference. My GP surgery (NHS) sent me a diet leaflet as a follow up.

You are okay this may be an advisory follow up.

I have spoken to the receptionist before and they have checked the result and read out the comment made by the GP who has reviewed then results.

PippaRose · 09/05/2019 20:08

Hello I had this and it was because one of my blood tests was just above the normal range.

The doctor said they phrase it like that to make sure people do come back but to stop them worrying too much.

Good luck!

Hecateh · 09/05/2019 21:34

I've booked blood tests and a dr's appt a week later at the same time because of having to wait 3 weeks for an appt.
Usually around the dr's appt, plus or minus a day or two, get a call or text asking me to make an appt to discuss results. Sometimes Often this comes after I have actually had my appt. My results are always slightly abnormal for reasons known to me and my regular GP but the call/text kicks out automatically.

If the results were dangerously out of kilter I would get a call with an emergency appt.
