AIBU to not pay ppi company

So I contacted a ppi claim company to see if I had ppi with Barclaycard they checked and said I had none and there was nothing more they could do
Barclaycard then wrote to me saying they’d made a mistake and if I filled the forms in I could claim which I duly did I also made a few follow up calls
I then had a text from the claim company saying Barclaycard had accepted the claim and were going to give me x amount I then had a phone call saying they wanted 25% of the claim
AIBU not to pay or pay a lesser percentage as I did all the work for the most part ?

This may be the reason they wrote to you (from MSE):

"Update Feb 2019: Following an MSE campaign, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has said firms must write to up to 150,000 PPI claimants they'd previously rejected by the end of April, to say they can now make a new complaint. Affected customers all bought their PPI before 6 April 2007. About 10,000 of them can claim because they weren't reminded about the cost of the commission throughout their policies, while up to 140,000 can claim as they were rejected under mis-selling rules but CAN complain under Plevin."

As much as it sucks I would just pay them, although feel free to try get the % down.

They did the initial legwork and had they not done so Barclays wouldn't have got in touch about the mistake. You had the option to get them to do the work when Barclays got in touch but decided to do it yourself which isn't the PPI companies fault.
