To keep DS off nursery BEFORE surgery?

NC because this is outing.

DS has FINALLY got an appointment for a tonsillectomy at the end of this month. He has been getting it like clockwork every 3-4 weeks. When he’s not at nursery he is generally healthier for longer.

I am trying to decide whether it’s worth keeping him off nursery ( he does 3 long mornings a week) until after the operation, to give him and his immune system the best shot at being ok for surgery. He can’t have the surgery if his tonsils are infected.

Does this sound reasonable to you guys? He’s going to drive me insane but what’s more important is getting those damn things out!

Do it. You certainly dont want the surgery postponed because he's ill. My neighbour's son had his out last year and it's been life-changing for him, he's gone from chronically sick to very healthy just like that.

My ds has a tonsillectomy when he was 4, after being ill every 3 weeks for years. In the month leading up to the operation our gp prescribed a daily low dose antibiotic to prevent infection. It worked brilliantly and he was well for the operation. Ask your gp if this is possible.

Totally reasonable. I would. Good luck.

Thanks folks. I've informed nursery that he's off and I will speak to GP next week about preventative antibiotics. He's currently ill and on 4x a day so maybe we just reduce that down to one dose a day from next week.

I did it when my ds needed surgery (not for tonsils). Worth it for him to not get sick. Even if you do get antibiotics, it doesn't stop him getting sick with something viral and postponing for that.
