Ok so I know it was a silly error on there part, but I am fuming. Left 5 month old with them for an hour and said if baby gets hungry grab a bottle of formula from the shelf! Came back and was preparing the evening bottle and could not find the expected bottle of opened formula in the fridge.... found the actual baby bottle and noticed the formula was brown but at time assumed it was because they had left the formula in the baby bottle in a fridge for longer than an hour.. (not slept in 5 months before you judge) I told them any formula in baby bottle needs throwing out immediately

Just come down from settling baby, asked again where the opened bottle of formula was and that’s when I spotted the weetabix drink in the fridge opened... looked at it and saw it was the same brown colour as what had been in the bottle!!!

Just went absolutely mental!! Apparently she did not take much if any.

They are not English but can read English so would have assumed they would have picked up one of the clearly marked 20 bottles of formula up and not the one bottle of bloody weetabix drink!

Have also scolded said husband for leaving this bloody drink on the side when he doesn’t even like it!!

Feel a little bad now as they are so lovely and I know it was a silly accident.. but what the hell!

There is also a funny story about them making chicken with kipper sauce...

Mine were on weetabix for breakfast at 5 months..strapping 6 foot 4 ,and 6 foot 2 they are now..20 years ago we weaned at 4 months..hungry babies needed it..

Fiveredbricks · 08/05/2019 21:07

Baby is 5m old. No damage done apart from probably a little hungry 🤷

borntobequiet · 08/05/2019 21:07

I had no idea there was such a thing as Weetabix drink.

Talkingfrog · 08/05/2019 21:09

I can see why you reacted the way you did, but can see how it happened. Glad you have sorted things out with them. I am sure little one will be fine. Probably didn't drink much as it was too thick to get through the teat.
When dd was little, I explained to my mum how I made up the bottles. The powder was measured in a container that had three sections. Showed her how to move it round for the next bottle.
When she made it up, she our all three measures of powder in one bottle! (must have been hard to shake)

Dd managed to drink some of it, but it was too thick for her to have much. (I am amazed any got through the teat hole).
Mum realised afterwards what she had done, and panicked it would have harmed her.
Dd was fine. I put less powder in her next few bottles so the amount of powder to water balanced out the 24 hours.

We went over it again before the next visit. Smile

its not that much of a big deal really ! all mine were having rusk milk by 4 months

Yorkshirelady · 08/05/2019 21:14

I started weaning our baby at 5 months...not on a weetabix drink....but ACTUAL weetabix soaked in calcuim rich cows milk! He loved it!!! And it is absolutely healthy as long as he's continuing to get his nutrients from formula / breast milk. Now he's 9 months old and he's munching on whatever he can get his hands on....have a look into 'baby led weaning'....it is ace!

A huge overreaction on your part, and absolutely ridiculous.

specterlitt · 08/05/2019 23:10

Talk about overreacting. Do manners just fly out the window over such minute things? They made a mistake and you have stated they are lovely otherwise, so be decent and apologise to them. Nothing was done with harmful intent or in a malicious manner. Such overreactions will make your relationship in the future worse and it is not needed. Furthermore, why even start on your husband? What exactly has he done wrong? You owe a number of people apologies and I sincerely hope you rope in your reactions and calm down.

This would not have harmed your child anyway, surely you have that much common sense, right?

NCforthis2019 · 08/05/2019 23:17

Confused yikes OP. Massive over-reaction, and quite rude really. I suppose you don’t make many mistakes......

sweeneytoddsrazor · 08/05/2019 23:36

You can start weaning from 4 months and there are some baby foods that are marked as suitable from 4 months. The reasons given for 6 months are because they are sitting better, able to chew better and ofcourse their digestive system is morw developed. It is not harmful to start a small amount at 4 months.

LaurieMarlow · 08/05/2019 23:40

Yes, babies used to be weaned earlier than now. They aren't anymore because the evidence showed it's harmful.

There’s no evidence that weaning after 17 weeks is harmful.

BlackPrism · 09/05/2019 01:34

Wtf is kipper sauce?

Gordanismykitchendreams · 09/05/2019 07:58

Yes, yes people I massively overreacted, I am absolutely rude and just plain hard work and of course I would never ever make a mistake!

Because omg... I am a human being and sometimes... get this... we get it wrong...

I am tired, so bloody tired and my reaction was nothing more than a reflection of that!

Also had she chugged down a lot of the weetabix drink (not a normal bowl of weetabix) pretty sure the reaction would be different.

And just to clarify! I don’t give a flying monkeys about food going down her mouth.. it was the type of food and probably the slight concern that they did not read the bottle before blindly assuming this was formula... it said bloody breakfast drink for God’s sake... and the cow and gate brand of which they are very familiar with was right next to it!

Anyway if you had read my posts.. me and my horribly flawed self.. did apologise.

Good morning to you all and have a lovely day x
