It's not like you all have not been wondering

OP posts:
Bouncingbelle · 08/05/2019 22:08

Archie - dont like it but not my baby, not my problem. It was v popular here about 4 years ago so a bit surprised by it.
Harrison - tacky as hell considering he is 'Harry's son'. V american.

mrsglowglow · 08/05/2019 22:09

love their choice of names 💙 ! Good on them for doing exactly as they pleased.

IABUQueen · 08/05/2019 22:09

It’s funny how royal people are trying to be normal and normal people are trying hard to appear posh.

NoTheresa · 08/05/2019 22:12

The surname Harrison derives from
Harry’s son.

TheGardenFairy · 08/05/2019 22:13

Welcome to the World little one. Congratulations Harry and Meghan. Archie Harrison is absolutely gorgeous. He has two of my grandsons names. Wishing him love, peace and happiness throughout his life xxx

NoTheresa · 08/05/2019 22:14

Both are now quite common and chavvy.

How many more times? 🙄You are mistaken.

sluj · 08/05/2019 22:15

So some idiots on mumsnet think they’re chavvy. That’s the best you’ve got? hmm

What do you want, a referendum?

There are a lot of similar comments all over social media if you want to look for it. I am just referencing some of the comments on this thread which show what a number of people think. You (and I) may not agree that there are such associations but there are plenty of people that have them.

NoTheresa · 08/05/2019 22:17

Archie is posh in my part of the UK. Independent and private schools are stuffed to the rafters with Archies, Rorys, Finns etc.

LaurieMarlow · 08/05/2019 22:19

there are such associations but there are plenty of people that have them.

And equally people saying it’s upper middle class in Scotland for example, so 🤷‍♀️

KingHenrysCodpiece · 08/05/2019 22:20

Referencing Harrison, Mark Hamil has tweeted that he suggested to W&H that they name any children after their favourite Star Wars actor, but he should have more strongly suggested Luke!Hmm

longwayoff · 08/05/2019 22:21

O bah. My money was on HarMeg.

essayessay · 08/05/2019 22:26

Harrison, in this context, is cringe.
And Archie, while commandeered by the middle class, is so ubiquitous now....the ski slopes, Padstow and Mark Warner are full of Archies from 18y down.
And someone posted on twitter that it is Prince Georges alias so if true thats odd as well.
Dull.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 08/05/2019 22:27

@DementedMa re posh Scots. Currently got the programme for last weeks Royal Caledonian Ball knocking about at home and there are some VERY posh, scary scottish ladies in there! I have London friends who go to scottish balls who are scared of super posh Scots. I do love "of that ilk" though- it sounds brilliant Grin.

Hopeygoflightly · 08/05/2019 22:31

Not Slithery? Disappointing.

TheGardenFairy · 08/05/2019 22:34

Harrison, in this context, is cringe

Harrison means son of Harry. Why is that cringe?? What are your children's names?

MsJuniper · 08/05/2019 22:36

*George V changed the family name from Saxe-Coburg Gotha (Prince Albert's name which of course became the family name for all Queen Victoria's children and descendants).

Quite a time into her reign the Queen decided that her children and descendants should at least have her husband's name somewhere in there and decided on Mountbatten-Windsor and since then that has been the family name!*

Out of interest, if the SCG family name derived from Prince Albert, why didn't all Philip's children just take/pass on Mountbatten? Had something changed in that time?

Hadenoughofitall441 · 08/05/2019 22:39

I like it, nothing mores I hate than having the same names repeated in a family. It’s unique within his family. I’m so glad they didn’t adhere to the. Norm for royal family. Good luck to them I say.

SweetMarmalade · 08/05/2019 22:42

I love the name Archie and think Harrison (Harry’s son) is blardy marvellous darhlinks!

It’s only a name fgs!

Hopeygoflightly · 08/05/2019 22:44

DNA test Harry, then cut off all taxpayer money to these leeches. Then no-one will give a damn what some nice American girl calls her child.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/05/2019 22:44

Well as this is an anonymous forum folk can say what they want, however all the derogatory posts make some posters sound down right nasty (and probably the type of people who would go incandescent with rage if someone dared post something horrible about their child's name)
Ok I understand we all like different things so why not leave it at 'I just don't like the name' rather than all the chavvy/scum/rough/stupid name accusations, as just sounds like attacks on Meghan & Harry.
Can't folk just say in private to family & friends what they really think rather than post it to all & sundry. Come on, in real life would you dare write on a wall or say to the parents Archie is a chavtastic name & you are stupid? No I don't think so.
FWIW I was surprised by Archie. However I like it & know Archies of all ages.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 08/05/2019 22:46

I think the Queen didn't want to give up Windsor or couldn't technically take his name? Philip is quite attached to it, unsurprisingly- it's the anglified Battenberg, an old royal surname & a tribute to uncle Louis, so he doesn't want it to die out. Lady Louise is a Mountbatten Windsor and I seem to recall he was thrilled. She was the 1st in ages. I don't know what Anne's "maiden name" is but I would assume it was MW. The Queen & Marg were technically Wales and Windsor, I think?

Bouledeneige · 08/05/2019 22:48

I guess its Archie rather than Archibald to try and build bridges with his uncle?

TildaTurnip · 08/05/2019 22:50

Why DNA test him? Go on, do share...

Nasty post.

sweetkitty · 08/05/2019 22:52

I had an uncle Archie who would be in his 70s now and a great uncle Archie who would be over 100 both working class Scottish.

Parents choose a name they love for their precious baby sod everyone else.

Evilspiritgin · 08/05/2019 22:53

I was just about to say I wonder what all the posters on here deriding the names have called their own children and would they mind posting them so we can all make nasty remarks about them
