to consider running a mums market?

I have looked into options and seen "mum2mum market" and "jack and jill market" opportunities where you run local sales in your area, attracting people to buy stalls and attracting customers etc for second hand baby and childrens clothes

Has anyone ever done this I am wondering what potential income would be as the "remuneration" part on both websites isn't very clear. Any advice would be great!! Thanks

I'm not sure on the potential income for those running them, but I will say the 2 that have tried here have failed to get off the ground. They're a lot more expensive than a carboot / jumble sale, and the venues have been rather small, so people have moaned at the lack of space to sell / parking.

It will be overrun by MLMs, mark my words.

Fakebake24 · 08/05/2019 11:17

@IceRebel I have been to a few across the country and all have been huge venues with loads of stalls and loads of footfall which is what made me think about it as there are opportunities for it just now

@Bezalelle not sure what area you are in but there have never been any MLMs at the ones I've been to... not that that would affect the revenue of the organiser anyway as they are paid for either the money taken on the door or the money taken from stalls, not a percentage of sales or anything like that

The baby boutique ones do very well here. More expensive than carboot in some cases but the quality of stuff being sold generally seems high. I think they limit business sellers for the event.

£2 pp entry (it is always rammed) and sellers pay around £12. Minus the brand % and the venue, it probably does generate a small amount of profit for the organiser.

The mum2mum here is about every 2 months. It's packed!!!! Items really cheap.

Fakebake24 · 08/05/2019 11:49

The ones Im looking at a stall is £27 and entry is £1.50pp with around 500 people minimum so looking at least 750£ as I am not sure if the stall prices are included - I dont think so though. Venue would obviously need to be paid too but not sure whether the organiser or the brand do that... information online again isnt very clear.

Mum2mum in my area is about that often too Id like to do it more often than that in different venues across the area if that makes sense. Hopefully someone with experience may come along with info, thanks for input everyone!!

A friend of mine runs mum2mum markets and hers are always rammed. She runs 2 different ones. I know she is happy and makes a decent amount and I think she does get stall money as well as door money. She often has other copy cat markets setting up nearby and they don't seem to do very well and often cancel so mum2mums are obviously doing something right. £27 seems a lot for a stall. I am in London and the mum2mum stalls are £25 max

InDubiousBattle · 08/05/2019 12:49

There's one in my area called Table Tots and they seem to do very well. Usually around 40-50 ish stalls and I think I paid £20 when I did one. £2 entry and queues to get in, plus they run a tiny cafe area.

Fakebake24 · 16/05/2019 14:26

@OhMickeyWhatAPity im in scotland. The jack and jill market stalls are £27 each and they sell out every market. Suppose people pay what they think its worth as most sellers make over 100£.

Thanks for views everyone lots of things to think about
