To be over 50 and still bite my nails?

I've just bitten all my fingernails very short. I've bitten them all my life, but I do it more often if I'm tired or stressed. Anyone else?

I bite mine. Not sure it’s something you ever grow out of once you hit adulthood without a significant effort.

I made a massive effort a few years ago. Stopped for like 6 months and it got so I didn’t miss it at all.

Then BAM just one day a nail annoyed me and I bit it, and I’m a concerted nail biter once more.

For me it’s not so much a stress response, it’s just a compulsive sensation seeking thing I think.

I am the same, slightly younger than you, but I don't see it changing any time soon.
It is a habit I just can't seem to break. I tried gels too try to give me a fighting chance , but they just peel off for some reason. I'd love to know how to stop effectively. I've tried various things, but no joy!

I bite mine constantly

If there’s no nail I start on skin. I wish I could stop.

Sometimes I can stop for a bit but I start again soon after.

I’ll even make my fingers bleed.

If there is anything a parent can do for a child is stop them biting nails when young.

Oh, and he horrid tasting stuff?

If you prepare food it rubs off and makes the food taste bitter

And the. You learn that if you bite kind enough the taste goes away

I stopped biting mine 3 years ago aged 43. As soon as they were long enough to get Shellac on I got them covered and haven't looked back since. My hands look so much nicer. I used stop n grow at the beginning. Took 4 weeks to go from bitten to white bits on the ends

I broke myself of it in my 30s by always having an Emory board with me. Any kind of raggedness gets smoothed away.

It’s still done damage to my teeth though. It’s not just your nails it’s bad for. Sad

An emery board is a good idea.
