Would I be unreasonable to report to management that's she's not that busy?

I sit next to a girl, in a similar role but she works for a different department. She is always complaining to management that's she's too busy. I hear them discussing how to assist her workload and they often ask me to help her out, but the problem is, I sit next to her and she is often on Facebook or messaging friends, the messages go back and forth for ages. She'll then return to working with lots of huffing and puffing. I know she could get a lot more done if she was less distracted. I'm now doing some of her work to help her out, management will often say can you help xxx out today. It's just causing me more workload when my plate is full already. I wouldn't mind to help if she genuinely needed help but she doesn't, she just needs to be less distracted so easily. I feel like mentioning it, but don't want to cause any hassles.

I would definitely report this,to whoever you have to report it to.Its just not right what this girl is doing, and you are then asked to help her out,,what a fiasco.!

idbenappingbutthedogbarked · 09/05/2019 04:05

I'd report it rather than say something to her. If she gets annoyed at you she may say something about you to management, I'd rather it the other way round. No way would I be taking her work.

floribunda18 · 09/05/2019 04:10

I'd walk past, look at her screen and say "That looks more interesting than work!" You would hope once she has been spotted and it has been mentioned that she will have the sense not to do it.

I would report to management.

Slackers at work really get on my nerves. I have a few where I work. It not only annoys me because I and others have to pick up their slack but I feel a fool because nothing is done about it and they basically get paid the same as me for doing nothing while I work my ass off. Some days I feel like just doing the same as them.

Your IT people should be able to log her computer use, it would soon show what sites she's on and if they're work relevant.

isabellerossignol · 09/05/2019 05:05

Don't make loud comments about her Facebook use because you leave yourself at risk of her accusing you of bullying her, singling her out etc.

Much better to say firmly ' I can't take on your workload as well as your own, you need to manage your time better'. Or tell her outright that since people in the office have noticed her excessive social media usage it's only a matter of time until management do as well so she needs to be careful.

TheSerenDipitY · 09/05/2019 05:51

when they ask you to help just say straight out i have more than enough to do and she would be able to manage if she wasnt on facebook and whats ap half the bloody day, if she acts shocked just say that IT can give exact amounts of time she was on both sites... you owe her nothing, she is putting more work on everyone else in the place, fucking about on SM and getting paid for it and getting others to do her work, it is time theft and management should be sorting that out

Where I work social media is blocked by IT, so the piss takers use their phones instead. I disagree Userplus. It is unreasonable to use social media when working. My boss is FB friend so I make a point of not using FB or Messenger at work as she would be able to check quite easily.
