To wear flu masks when I leave the house?

I have asthma. Quite severe, have had 3 admissions to hospital already this year with it, as well as needing steroids on multiple other occasions to bring it back under control. I am on strong preventer inhalers and I do what I can to avoid triggers but a big trigger seems to be when I catch a cold or a chest infection. With that being said, is it entirely unreasonable to leave the house wearing flu masks to try and avoid catching germs? It’s really impacting on my life and I’ve had far too much time off work in recent months because of it.

If you had no vitamin D id go back to the Dr. DD is on permanent Double dose of Vitamin D on recommendation of the Doctor. Its going to impact on your wellbeing

I take allicin max when I feel a lurgy coming on, it's saved me from a couple that ripped through the whole office. Or I think it has.

also OP, I used to get sick more often but having started tons of handwashing, and using the "stop cold" type sprays you get before I get on the Tube (my commute) I seem to have become much better.

I have asthma too, a lot of the time I don't notice it, but a cold becomes a chest infection very quickly, even for me. I'm really sorry you're going through all this and I hope you can find stuff that works for you.

Have you had the flu vaccine?

If you work in healthcare you’ll be aware that there are masks that we wear when caring for flu +ve patients. We are ideally ‘fit tested’ to make sure it is doing a decent job. If your work involves exposure to flu patients your OH department should be able to help.

oh I just thought!

I also had the pneumonia vaccine - doc said it would help with related illnesses?

Maybe try allergy meds so piriton etc. If you reduce the phlegm you might reduce the chest infections.
I find real honey and lemon work quite well.

Vitamins for your dc too if they are bringing it home.

I find the viruses that trigger my asthma are the ones that cause the kids to have croup/conjuntivitis etc

I don’t know if it’s helpful, but it may be worth getting new inhalers etc as my colleague who used hers regularly was diagnosed with a strep throat/bacterial infection from germs which were lingering on the inhaler - where I suppose it is warm and moist from breathing in and out of it?
