..to take DD (4) with me for a cervical screening/smear test appointment?

...just remembered I have an appointment early tomorrow morning and I have no childcare for my DD who is 4.
Would it be totally inappropriate to take her with me? I don't want to get all the way down there for them to refuse and rebook my appointment! Sorry if it's a silly question - I don't remember having one since she's been born!

My son was younger than your daughter when I took him for my smear, around 2.5. Gave him a mini packet of milky buttons and it was over quickly. Seemed to a much faster process post birth Blush

I took mine. If I'm not at work I have my DC so they have to come with me to medical appointments. I usually take colours and stickers etc to keep them busy. It'll only take 5mins hopefully.

Both DC here have been with me occasionally (I have them yearly). Both times they just sat on the other side of the curtain, although DS8 once poked his head around the corner and had a little look. If you're comfortable then go for it.

Why not ring the doctors and check, so you dont risk being turned away.

I take my DD with me to dentist appointments, eye exams etc. And I would probably take her to a smear as well, if I was due one. She wouldn't need to see anything and it's a short procedure so you could keep her busy with a sticker book or something.

My kids have always come to my medical appointments including smears as there's no one who can watch them. It's always been ok.

iolaus · 07/05/2019 13:20

I've taken mine when they were pushchair age

peanutbutterismydownfall · 07/05/2019 13:21

Why would they turn you away? I have taken my DC, once when DD was a toddler & then again when both of them were at primary. You're behind a curtain & it's over in minutes.

Thanks for all of the replies. I just wanted to check! She comes with me for most of my appointments but wasn't sure if they'd have a problem with this one.
She's usually good (in public!!!) so I'm sure she'd be fine! I may briefly explain what will happen in case she gets nosey and peaks round the curtain - I don't want to traumatise the poor child!

I took my 4 year old daughter with me last month for mine, no problem. The nurse said how lovely to normalise it for her and show her it was nothing to worry about. Naturally my daughter had 10001 questions, which I answered for her. All in all an opportunity for learning and I hope my daughter doesn't miss hers once she's grown up :)
