Would you drop off this parcel?

I’ve come home to find a random package in my letterbox, right house number but completely the wrong street.

The actual address is a few suburbs across, about a 10-15 minute drive and about 5 mins or so from my DDs school.

There was a phone number on the address so I sent a text asking if it was theirs. They have replied to say yes, and that I can drop it off tomorrow.

I can’t return it as it’s from abroad, and I have no idea what courier company delivered it.

It’s not massively out of my way, but it’s a pain and will take up a chunk of time which is really at a premium for me at the moment.

If you were me, would you drop it off or reply to the (cheeky fucker) and get them to collect it from my house?

Reply and tell them to come and pick it up! They are very rude and presumptuous, if it was worded the way it was in your OP.

sunshineandshowers21 · 07/05/2019 08:42

i’d tell them that if they wanted it then they’d better collect it. why should you run round after other people?

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2019 08:42

I probably would drop it off tbh but if its inconvenient to you it's perfectly fine to ask them to come and get it.

Aurorie11 · 07/05/2019 08:42

If it was me, their parcel they collect at your convenience, you didn't ask for it to be left with you

LordEmsworth · 07/05/2019 08:42

Why are you even thinking about dropping it off?

If it were the next street, I would; I would not be driving anywhere though, they are massive CFs.

VelociraptorRex · 07/05/2019 08:43

We've had this several times, I suggested the intended recipient come and get it before xxx otherwise I would have to open it and donate the contents to charity/bin it, as long as it's not taking up too much room for you to do that.

Redshoeblueshoe · 07/05/2019 08:44

Text back and tell them when it is suitable for them to come and collect it

Circeplease · 07/05/2019 08:44

If time’s at a premium the time hey should be coming to you. You have done a good deed already taking it in and contacting them.
Also unless there is something preventing them coming themselves underlying that attitude (“you can drop it off tomorrow”) that is quite unpleasant and cheeky so I wouldn’t bother unless it’s an easy detour.

Iooselipssinkships · 07/05/2019 08:45

Are they willing to pay for petrol and your time!?
I wouldn't do it. Give your address for them to collect or tell them to arrange a courier themselves. Or even get on to whoever delivered it and complain it's at the wrong address, them not you.
Then kindly advise you're not the fucking Post Office and they should be thankful you got in touch at all.

Holidayshopping · 07/05/2019 08:45

They have replied to say yes, and that I can drop it off tomorrow.

Bloody cheek!

Say, ‘No can do. I’m in tonight after 6 if you want to come and collect it.’

lunar1 · 07/05/2019 08:46

Tell them they can either collect it or arrange for a taxi to collect. Cheeky sods!

glueandstick · 07/05/2019 08:46

‘It’s by the front door. Come get it’

Justbreathing · 07/05/2019 08:47

It’s 5 mins from school. Really not something to get worked up about.
You could just say. Meet me at the corner of X road at X time - by the school. Then easier for both of you

bananascanturnonlamps · 07/05/2019 08:48

I'd tell them to come and collect

CherryPavlova · 07/05/2019 08:49

Us I’d probably drop it off although more usually I’d give to the postman to deliver.

Funkyslippers · 07/05/2019 08:49

I would do as Just says - get them to meet you at the school, or if they can't, to come to your house to collect

my2bundles · 07/05/2019 08:49

I would message back giving a time for them to collect from you.

Lweji · 07/05/2019 08:50

Just tell them you're leaving it for them to collect on top of your wheelie bin.

Otoh, it could be someone with mobility issues, hence ordering. So, find out if they can't collect from your house first.

IAmNOTBent · 07/05/2019 08:50

They should collect it! Cheeky beggars!

FenceFuckery · 07/05/2019 08:51

I’m not doing the school run tomorrow as she’s got sport so is going with her team. So would be massively out of my way tomorrow. I’ll try to post the text exchange....

how rude
just tell them when you are free for them to come to you!

Wintersnowdrop · 07/05/2019 08:52

I would suggest they contact the courier company and get the courier company to come pick it up and deliver it correctly or get them to come and collect it. I wouldn’t be delivering it myself. I once had a huge package left on my doorstep, which was addressed to someone in the next street. I got the courier to come and get it and redeliver. I tried knocking to see if the recipient wanted to come and get it but there was no answer and it was too big for me to carry across. Massive rectangle slightly smaller than a dishwasher!

SleepingStandingUp · 07/05/2019 08:52

Well their cheek would make me think they can get it themselves but is 5 minutes each way after or before school really undoable?

EleanorReally · 07/05/2019 08:52

tell them you are not a delivery driver or a postman!
