OP posts:
Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/07/2007 20:44

it's harmless.
So, yes YABU.

WendyWeber · 17/07/2007 20:44

YABU

Actually I stopped being excitied 2 books ago but as one who was excited I don't feel I can criticise.

YOu will like the comment in the Guardian today...hang on a tick

brimfull · 17/07/2007 20:45

agree, never like any fantasy stuff myself.

suzycreamcheese · 17/07/2007 20:45

yes yes yes YES!

PersonalHouseElf · 17/07/2007 20:45

I have one. The problem is that it's not very interesting!
Each to their own I say.

MadEyeMisdee · 17/07/2007 20:45

YABU. its one thing i am looking forward to, wheres the harm in that

LoveMyGirls · 17/07/2007 20:45

Not enough sex that's what it is. (just joking!) I think people should be allowed to be excited, infact i think it's nice people are excited about things better than being all grown up and boring isnt it?

WendyWeber · 17/07/2007 20:45

"toxic prose"

GryffindorInARiffindor · 17/07/2007 20:45

I haven't read it and have no real interest but I think YABU

Agree with kathy - harmless

rantinghousewife · 17/07/2007 20:46

Preferred Susan Coopers 'The dark is rising' myself

UnquietDad · 17/07/2007 20:46

They're quite well-written children's adventure books. Nothing new, nothing exciting. And that is ALL.

People are all too ready and willing to be victims of hype.

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 17/07/2007 20:46

Well....I have it written on my calendar....Dh is having DS all day so I can read in peace....I'm counting down the days until saturday....but...like Kathy says, all good harmless fun so why not! Better than going out getting blind drunk, vomming on the pavement and flashing my norks at passers by! (not that I do that when there is no HP release imminent btw!)

booge · 17/07/2007 20:46

It's harmless yes but hardly great literature or really original.

OP posts:
Tortington · 17/07/2007 20:47

terry pratchett writes better things with his left bollock

WendyWeber · 17/07/2007 20:47

HOwever even those who criticise the style agree that the plotting is supreme (even if somewhat derivative)

I know I couldn't do it!

GryffindorInARiffindor · 17/07/2007 20:48

well it's captured the imagination of the masses so can't be all bad

GryffindorInARiffindor · 17/07/2007 20:48

as I said not my bag so can't comment on style etc

stoppinattwo · 17/07/2007 20:49

.i have a thread for you in chat

sorry for my rudeness!!

TheMuppetMuggle · 17/07/2007 20:49

I'm 24 but i'll be down book shop friday nite getting my copy (well my sex life is down the drain now i've split from dp) so the book will have to do for now!

rantinghousewife · 17/07/2007 20:50

Ohh, Custardo, Mort was excellent, few years since I read that tho'

aDad · 17/07/2007 20:50

I've never been anywhere near a HP book or film, and dont think it would appeal.

But people's interest in it doesn't bother me. Live and let live. We're all different.

Blandmum · 17/07/2007 20:51

it is just a bit of fun.

I enjoy it, and can enjoy it with my kids. Which is more than can be said for Jaquiline Wilson and her stories of gloom

rantinghousewife · 17/07/2007 20:51

Stoppinattwo, ok, shall look, sorry everyone!
Thread hijack over.

GryffindorInARiffindor · 17/07/2007 20:51

Blandmum · 17/07/2007 20:51

I like Terry Practchet too, and am introducing them to the kids!
