Aaaaaw!

If you can't have one now, are you able to get your paws on one belonging to a friend or neighbour? Or look at a scheme like 'Borrow My Doggy', where you can sign up to walk & look after local dogs?

There must be plenty of people out there who would be delighted to have a spare dogwalker or sitter available. Hope you soon get sorted with a part-time pal to have fun with xx

The Cinnamon Trust look for people to walk dogs for the elderly and infirm, might be worth checking out their website. I feel for you OP I remember before I got my dog how overwhelming the urge for a dog was, it was all I thought about, spent all my time reading about dogs, talking to dog owners (well I say the owners I was only interested in getting doggy cuddles really!) I hope circumstances change for you soon Flowers

I want one too, but at the moment can’t afford the up front cost for the breed we want.

You can spend an evening dog sitting my sisters demented 16 yr old terrier , which is what I’m doing tonight , and that will put you off ! My dog , of course , is a complete delight but he’s home with dh because demented dog is so anti social .

Definitely borrowmydoggy- we're owners and always delighted when our saviour comes to tire rookiedog out.

givemesteel · 05/05/2019 22:47

Yes! I hear you. There's a particular breed I want so much. But with life circumstances I would say we're about 5 or so years off this being a possibility financially / time wise etc.

Nice as it is to walk an old person's dog, it's not for me. The walking etc is what I do t have time for right now and I want the whole package, the love, the devotion... That you just don't get from someone else's dog.

Me, I am so broody for a dog!! In fact this morning I was looking at some rescue dogs online.

My 13yo dd also really wants one, every time I go out I look at owners and their dogs with envy!

I'd like to think that at some point we will be in a position to get a (small) dog but we just don't have the time at the moment 😢

Wow never heard of the borrowmydog website! The charity sounds great too! Dog owners are usually the friendliest people Flowers

Me too, but can't have one as I'm in rented accommodation. One day hopefully ...

All the time and I've already got two, one very antisocial madame who only likes my male dog. I could become a mad dog lady so so easily.

This was me for about 10 years after the last of a long line of family dogs died and I'd left home.

I ended up accidentally acquiring a dog from a friend, and had to make it work because there was no other choice. He is, however, rather time consuming!
