To think it's possible to get a wedding ring for less than £200?

DP and I are planning on going wedding ring shopping next week. We both want very plain bands, probably gold, without any kind of embellishment.

Am I being ridiculous to think we should be able to find what we're looking for, for less than £200 each? Specifically, could we get what we want in Hatton Gardens?

We could spend more, but it seems like a bit of a waste. Equally, I can't quite bring myself to buy my wedding ring from Argos or H. Samuel...

My wedding ring came from Argos! It was a perfectly adequate 9ct plain gold ring, didnt have a sign on it saying "I Am Cheap"... Grin A jeweller in our local high street gave me 7 quid for it when i broke up with exH.

I doubt i will ever wear another wedding ring.

My wedding ring cost £15 from an independent jewellers. Had a bevelled edge, was lovely.x

Mine was Hatton garden, tiny thin ring of thin gold probably cheaper than most high st bottom end prices. They cover the full range

Mine is silver and cost £30 from an independent jewellery maker. I brought it direct from the maker at a posh Christmas market and love it. If your budget is low consider you could other materials than gold and go direct to local artists for something unique.

Plain Hula Hoops, 6 bags for £1 in the Co-Op

Good old Amazon ... available in white gold too: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000XZSHSE/ref=twister_B079TYV344?psc=1&th=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

You can get thinner, narrower rings than this 4mm one but I wouldn't recommend it; you need something that's going to last

What's wrong with H. Samuel or Argos?

It's not like they make you walk around with a huge sign over your head afterwards!

4mm is actually quite wide for a ladies wedding ring, and compared to standard engagement rings. 2- 2.5 mm will last if its not very thin (in depth)

When I got married (back in 1991), the best advice I got was to go to an independent but not expensive jeweller as plain bands can be relatively inexpensive, more so than at Ernest Jones or H Samuel etc. I looked round & it was right. It was 1991 I know, but DH & I got plain 18 ct gold plain bands, not extremely skinny for £50 each I think. We still have them & they are both in very good Knick, worn every day.

I wouldn't do this for a wedding/engagement ring, but I haver bought my wife some lovely jewellery from e-bay.

you can pick up top quality stuff for 1/4 to 1/3 of the new price. Rest assured diamonds and gold do not deteriorate with age. It's actually nice having proper hallmarks.

A wedding ring I bought her (as a dress ring) is yellow and white gold, with a 2000 millennium hallmark. She loves it, and it was about £100
