I'm so ready. Please tell me how your life has changed because you've lost weight and started exercising.

Especially if you've lost lots of weight.

I lost 4 stone by weight lifting and little to no cardio.

It changed my entire figure.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/05/2019 18:58

I started running three years ago. I was totally unfit. I can now run 10km on a good day. I can also keep up with DD, model good behaviour to her, just do more stuff.

But you lose weight in the kitchen and tone in the gym. I've lost weight not because of the eating but because when you run, carting around extra weight is exhausting!

5:2 diet, plus spin and body pump classes.

Started in Feb, went on hol in July and DIDNT feel like covering myself up with a towel the whole time. It was great.

Also treat yourself to a snazzy new gym outfit and pair of trainers, made me feel much better walking into the gym!

Grumpos · 05/05/2019 18:59

Same, forget endless cardio and get into resistance training.
Calorie deficit (slight not massive), regular weight training plus light low key cardio (walking, swimming, exercise bike etc) is all you need.
At age 38 post baby and following 15 years of pounding my legs through running and other impact cardio I’m done with it. 3 weeks proper training and I’m already seeing gains and inch loss.
All that said, pick something you’ll stick to and will enjoy!

napalm can you say more about your weightlifting? Do you go to the gym or do it at home?

See the trick is to take up running in your 40s. I have the joints of a lazy teenager Grin

Just on here for tips as I’m also going to start exercising and want to do the low carb diet, not trying to jump on to your thread just to see suggestions :)

I actually started getting fit to try and maintain weight as I am slightly underweight due to immense stress.
It has completely changed my life. I am at my fitness centre 6 days a week, the instructors are helping me with my eating before it turns into a bigger problem, and I've made loads of friends! I am getting fitter and stronger everyday!
I do a mix of classes including spin, kettle bells, a bit of weights (can only manage between 5kg and 13kg depending on the move at the moment) and other stuff as well.
Lots of my friends there are trying to lose, but ALL of us are looking more toned and firmer if that makes sense?
I really recommend it, it's done wonders for me mentally as well as physically

Do you all feel amazing?

napalm can you say more about your weightlifting? Do you go to the gym or do it at home?

I got a personal trainer but I realise that’s not for everyone.

I basically do 2x legs and glutes and 2x upper body a week.

You just need to know basics like deadlifts and squats and you build on that.

Do you have Instagram because there’s some good accounts to follow on there.

Honestly I get gym regulars coming up to me saying about my transformation

berryhead2013 · 05/05/2019 19:46

I bought a fit bit in March and have lost a stone I spend half an hour in the morning walking on the spot with my tunes on in the kitchen (sounds ridiculous I know) but with two kids and a hubby that thinks his time is more important than mine I don't get the chance to go to the gym or out for long walks plus the fit bit tells you to move if you are not moving enough I like having targets to work too good luck xx

BrigitsBigKnickers · 05/05/2019 20:21

I used the couch to 5k programme to start with ( on my cross trainer as have joint issues and my osteopath advised me against running on the roads.) started in Jan this year.

Couldn't even run for a minute on a resistance of 3 to start with. Can now run for at least 30 mins on level 8 ( some HIT at full pelt) and do 5 mins fairly brisk on level 4 either side of the main run. Lost 18lbs using a combination of low carb and 5:2/ 16:8 which has stayed off even with falling off the wagon a few times. Am in a good frame of mind for this now. Need to lose another 2 stone or so but know I can do it - am in the long game now.
About to start some weights training to tone up a bit more.

Feel soooooo much better.
