Creased item and M+S store assistant

Happy to learn from a mistake , but I just returned an item to M+S.
The shop assistant asked me if there was anything wrong with it and I said no, just looked different to mannequin.
She then said, quite abruptly “you might want to fold it up next time, it’s creased”. I just awkwardly smiled and she didn’t say another word to me, even when I said thank you as I left.
I know it’s petty, but isn’t it pretty hard to not crease certain clothes you try then return? I didn’t want to risk ironing something I’m going to take back.
I felt a bit silly tbh .

She then said, quite abruptly “you might want to fold it up next time, it’s creased” I'm not normally one to say ' would have said.......' but on this occasion I really would have said ' yeah, will do!" in a flat uninterested voice.
According to y kids I really good at mot taking the bait but pissing off people who try to puss me off.
Apparently it's a good life skill to have. After all I'm agreeing they have a point. ( so they can't say I wasn't bothered) I'm not being confrontational, I'm not arguing the toss and I'm not standing there being embarrassed or letting someone tear a strip off me!

You have no idea of the crap that they have to deal with. Or the amount of CFs that routinely buy outfits to wear once then return to store. It's common practice now and she's prob sick of being lied to about it. You just got the brunt of it.

Yes I do. Someone once brought back the most disgusting bra I'd ever seen on the pretext the wire had come out (grey, filthy, looked like they'd cleaned the floor with it). I was told by management to issue a refund. I did. Very politely.

Then you have more tolerance than most.

M&s have a 'customer is always right' policy on returns and no quibbles. My friend worked there and she said a man returned a coat that he'd had for 16years because button fell off and they took it. It's one reason why their older customers are so loyal to the brand despite the quality getting worse and worse.

She made a sensible suggestion and gave you a refund without question.

It must be impossible to be sweetness and light to every single person who brings something back in a state that means it can't just be put back out for sale. Obviously it's impossible to bring clothes back perfectly smooth, but an attempt at careful folding would be polite and seem less blithe.

She didnt have to be sweetness and light, shw just had to be not rude

It's hardly the sales assistant's issue whether or not an item can be taken back into stock. There's no need to be snippy.
