People at work who do their make up in the staff toilets

I'm pregnant at the moment so have noticed this more as I need the loo more often but these people really annoy me!

Our office has those toilets where the wall of each cubicle doesn't reach the floor, so you can see the shoes of the person next door to you.

That's off-putting in itself when you need to do a big loud wee or rustling with tampax wrappers. But there are two ladies in the office who go into the loo and spend ages at the mirror/sinks reapplying their already perfect makeup, and I can't go for a wee when they are there! It's deathly quiet compared to the hum of the office and I get stage fright and can't wee!

It's like my body won't let me so I end up just flushing the loo and coming out and washing my hands in a grump. Why the need to reapply and be in there for ages multiple times a day!

AIBU that they should do what we all do, which is usually just a quick touch up after we've been to loo and washed our hands and then leave rather than a mammoth makeup session.

My husband is like this, he can’t wee if anyone is near him. The amount of times I’ve walked into the bathroom whilst he was doing his business and he’s just stopped is unbelievable. Usually he’ll run a tap or flush the loo so the sound of water makes him go. (We only have one bathroom so a lot of the time we’re all in there together bathing the kids when one of us needs a wee, we don’t make a point of weeing together, before anyone thinks we’re weird)

I love how the suggestion that OP line the bottom of the toilet with toilet paper - a substance that is designed to be flushed away - has turned into a full on rant about people shoving entire rolls down it and blocking it.

OP I get you. As a pp (ha!) said it's about people who you work with knowing a bit more about you than you would like them to. Different from other public loos because you then have to spend the rest of the day with them, and every day after that.

Flushing while peeing is good if you can, or yes failing that a couple of sheets carefully draped at the bottom of the bowl will muffle the sound.

I often think it would be nicer if work loos could have music piped into them to avoid the sounds being so audible.

God, people on MN have so many issues! Please work on these, OP. YABU.

The number of people saying ‘just get over it’ on this thread, as if that’s a straightforward thing people are able to do, is absurd. Some people are so narrow minded and lacking in empathy that they are truly incapable of imagining anyone’s life other than their own.

And I bet the people complaining about how wasteful it is to put a few extra sheets of paper in a loo still eat meat, fly on holiday, buy fruit flown in from Africa and South America, drive to work, buy single use plastics etc!

Jupiters · 04/05/2019 12:49

I have been known to put my makeup on at work...I cycle in so don't put it on before I leave home. It seems politer that doing it at my desk?

BasilTheGreat · 04/05/2019 12:53

I used to be like that when I was younger. I would just put fingers in my ears so I couldn’t here the people around me. It solved the problem.

drspouse · 04/05/2019 12:57

What are you going to do when your DC follows you into the loo or says in a loud voice in a public loo "That was a good big poo mummy".
Are you going to teach them they must never let anyone hear them go to the loo?

cheif · 04/05/2019 13:10

Are you going to teach them they must never let anyone hear them go to the loo?

No because as I've said I have no problem with going to the public loos it's about works loos and specifically people who do their whole make up routine hovering by the sinks for ages.

I have a four year old who I take to the loo in public all of the time and we have no issues thanks.

Honestly, I come on here sometimes and end up completely bemused by the first world problems that some people seem to have.

Reasonstobeearful · 04/05/2019 13:25

Go and get eaten by a tiger in Kenya then.

drspouse · 04/05/2019 13:25

So why does it bother you in the work loo then?

Reasonstobeearful · 04/05/2019 13:25

This will put an end to your confusion.

choosingchilli · 04/05/2019 13:38

Has no one noticed they are spending so much time doing all this? I'm assuming it's in worktime?

Teacakeandalatte · 04/05/2019 13:42

I once sat in a cubicle for ages waiting for someone to leave as I felt embarrassed and they then turned the light off as they left leaving the loos completely dark.

cheif · 04/05/2019 14:00

So why does it bother you in the work loo then?

Because I don't have to do my weekly Sales presentation in front of a random person in the ikea toilets but I do with my colleagues.

It must be utterly exhausting living like some people do.

TinselAndKnickers · 04/05/2019 14:07

Go and get eaten by a tiger in Kenya then.

Only skim read this thread so this comment caught me off guard Grin

Op: I hate people doing their makeup and get toilet stage fright.
Response: go and get eaten by a tiger

littlemeitslyn · 04/05/2019 14:11

'Do the toilet ' ?????

marvellousnightforamooncup · 04/05/2019 14:15

You don't get wild tigers in Africa.

Rosesaredead · 04/05/2019 14:26

I think it's more your issue than anyone elses if you feel anxious about being heard urinating. I'd not care at all.

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 04/05/2019 14:29

Exactly, Vladmir

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/05/2019 14:32

I hate doing my make up at work as I can FEEL the annoyed vibes coming from the cubicles as they timidly shit and pee

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/05/2019 14:33

Go and get eaten by a tiger in Kenya then.

That’s a fair point 😂

optimisticpessimist01 · 04/05/2019 14:36

I really couldn't care less if someone hears me wee or even hears me rustling around with a tampon, we're all women in there, its normal behaviour...

I also couldn't care less if someone reapply's their makeup in the toilet, I think its the most normal place in the office to do it

LaurieMarlow · 04/05/2019 14:40

Move to Japan where they have those loos that make waterfall noises to mask the peeing sounds.

True story.
