To be pissed off with this recruiter

I was made redundant recently, I’ve been very actively “proper” job hunting but to make ends meet I’ve been working in a pub pretty much full time .

I had a cal from a recruiter who had seen my CV who really wanted to meet me. Ok I say, but the only time we could both do was on my break from the pub. Gave her the heads up I would be in my “pub scruffs” of course no problem.

Over the course of the meeting she told me off for only being in my last job for 5 months, I was made redundant...
Told me off for being “scruffy” and kept saying “you really can’t show up to interviews dressed like that” I am aware, Thats why I warned her I wouldn’t be in my Sunday best when i booked this. It also was a pair of black jeans, black trainers and a black polo shirt. I was hardly there in a dressing gown.
She kept going on about how I really couldn’t be working in the pub forever. I know... which is why I gave up my break to go and meet her.

What an unproductive half an hour.

Oh that sounds really rubbish. Did she have any good opportunities for you?

lastqueenofscotland · 03/05/2019 15:38

Who knows! She didn’t mention anything. I’ve got a degree from a Russell group and several professional qualifications and excellent references from multi nationals and she was talking to me like a naughty school girl Angry

What a pain in the arse. She sounds like a waste of space OP.

I hate dealing with recruiters. They are full of crap.

I had an interview for a dream job through an agency. The interview went brilliantly and I got amazing feedback from the recruiter, but apparently I was 'literally pipped at the post' and 'you were a definite second choice', according to the bullshitter recruiter. A week later, the ad for the same job came out again, and I foolishly thought it would be a shoe-in for me, only to be told that they didn't want previous applicants. Something didn't sound quite right about what she'd told me.

Don't tell me what you think I want to hear, especially if it's BS.

gokartdillydilly · 03/05/2019 15:46

by the way @lastqueenofscotland good luck! You sound very dedicated, sensible and intelligent. Something great will come up! But don't forget to not wear your pjs to your interview Grin

Sup3rbsunset5 · 03/05/2019 15:47

I would rather employ someone who after being made redundant had got a job to pay the bills
Than employ someone who didn't work

Honeybee85 · 03/05/2019 15:54

I used to be a recruiter and that ‘recruiter’ was being downright rude.

I used to interview engineers all the time after their work or on their lunchbreak and it was NORMAL to me they showed up in workgear.
I even usually wore jeans and trainers instead of a suit to not make them feel uncomfortable.

Soon this person will go out of business for their behaviour as they cant seem to understand a good recruiter builds relationships on mutual respect and understanding.

I would leave a review about them on Glassdoor and seriously reconsider doing business with such a twat Angry

moreismore · 03/05/2019 15:56

So rude! She isn’t doing you a favour here, finding you a job earns her a living. Get a new recruitment consultant.

lastqueenofscotland · 03/05/2019 16:00

I won’t be using her. I went to see someone else after my shift who was a breath of fresh air.
Hadn’t thought about leaving a review... might just do that Grin

Please do so OP.

To warn other people and also for the nice recruiter who gets a bad rep because people like that one ruin the business.

StealthPolarBear · 03/05/2019 16:06

She sounds a bit thick tbh

BadBear · 03/05/2019 16:27

From my experience using recruitment agencies both for finding a job and for hiring (as a manager), the majority of recruiters are a waste of space.

They barely listen to your needs and requirements and are rubbish at finding a good match. I have only met a handful who were interested in helping candidates find their dream job and fully understood the clients they were hiring for. If I were you, I would not waste any time on recruiters and go directly to employers who interest you. Even if they are not actively advertising for a role, they may be looking for new talent. Create a shortlist of companies who you think would be a perfect match in terms of their offering and culture and contact them directly. I have found this to be the most successful way over the years and was offered interviews and positions with companies who weren't even advertising a vacancy.

Hithere12 · 03/05/2019 16:30

I’d make a complaint to the Recruitment Agency and never use them again. They need YOU just as much as YOU need them and most job vacancies use a number of agencies.
I work in Recruitment and she was extremely rude and I’d never be allowed to speak to someone like that.

Fcukthisshit · 03/05/2019 16:37

I’d email some feedback about the meeting to her line manager.
