Mine’s lovely too. Pretty much share 50/50, is happy to swap things around for my work, as I do for him. He has his faults, as do I, but I can’t imagine facing the shittier things we’ve had to face, with anyone else but him.

Many people say I’m lucky. But that assumes I had no part in choosing him. I wouldn’t have married him if he wasn’t the man he is.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 03/05/2019 17:21

I feel so lucky to be married to the best person I have ever met. We’ve been together 22 years. He would do anything for me, anything for our DDs, he’s kind, funny and so just so interesting. I am never ever bored when I’m with him. I’m excited for our future as though we were newlyweds.

Mummyshark2018 · 03/05/2019 17:26

Mine does my head in sometimes, but he has some redeeming qualities. He works a late shift and when I come home with dc after work/ school the house has all been cleaned and hoovered and a few washes done!

MitziK · 03/05/2019 17:48

Mine's a Twat.

A funny, smart, sweet and kind twat, but a twat nonetheless.

In the absence of a working washing machine, he's just finished washing my clothes in the bath and is now cooking me a baked potato. I was a complete prick to him on Wednesday morning (combination of being all over the place following my brother dying last week, averaging 2-3 hours' sleep from 5/6am for a fortnight since his accident and knowing I was going back to work that morning) and he took it in his stride and went to make me a coffee before retreating to a safe distance whilst the caffeine took effect.

I can't think of anybody I'd rather be with - I'd probably abandon him for a torrid affair with Bear McCreary before coming back when I was sick of bagpipes and hurdy-gurdy music, but in the Real World, he's the man I want to be with forever.

He's still a twat, though. Mainly for putting up with me and the DTwatCats.

My husband is just amazing - we met when he was only 20 and I was 21 and pregnant with my daughter. He took us both on and has treated her like his own daughter since then. When my Mum first had her stroke, he was working in Germany, he flew straight back, he would sit and feed her, carry her into the car/into bed. When we found out my Dad was dying, I was 16 weeks pregnant and it was only 4 weeks after we buried my mum, and I broke down. He said he didn’t want Dad knowing without someone there, and he was the one who told Dad he had cancer. He worked 14 hour days with little sleep and drove straight to sit with Dad at his bedside. When we got the call to say Dad only had minutes left he raced me to the nursing home and held his hand while he died.
He’s always on my side, always has my back and is a lovely daddy x

@MitziK 😂😂😂. 🙏

What lovely responses. We're all very lucky indeed!

Have a fabulous Bank Holiday weekend everyone 😊

Lovely thread. I really believe in the power of positive affirming relationships. Mine didn't work out and I'm metaphorically battered and bruised.

I know it's out there for me, my time will come.

My DH is lovely. Completely scatter brained and forgetful, but he's my wally and I wouldn't swap him!

JaneEyre07 · 03/05/2019 19:51

We've been married 26 years later this year. I still have odd fantasies about burying him under the patio but we've had some family drama on my side recently, and he's so protective. I always know he has my back. And I love him for that.

Reading some threads on here, I've realised how many utter fuckwits are out there and it really saddens me to see how downtrodden the women with them end up being.

MintyCedric · 03/05/2019 19:51

there ARE good men out there

...generally married or gay ime. Where the hell do we find the straight ones?! Grin

Fluffymullet · 03/05/2019 19:57

Although he frustrates the hell out of me at times, my DH is kind, has a good heart and totally supportive of me with work/life etc. He is a brilliant Dad to my girls.

Everyone deserves something who thinks they are special and treats them like they are thier favourite person in the world

DowntonCrabby · 03/05/2019 20:04

Mine is AMAZING!

But actually, of course these DH’s aren’t AMAZING, in the same way we aren’t AMAZING to them.

We are flawed but happy, content, secure, equal, a team.

I acknowledge that those who post for advice will rarely represent the norm and horrific stories of abuse/control are thankfully in the minority of relationships.

camelfinger · 03/05/2019 20:11

I’m lazing around on Mumsnet while my DH is making a healthy homemade curry from scratch. And the kitchen will be left tidy.
He picked up some (supermarket) flowers on the way home to cheer the place up. And he does the meal planning. No complaints.

PickettBowtruckles · 03/05/2019 20:15

Mine’s getting up with the 16wk old baby (who hasn’t been sleeping!) in the morning (and the rest of the bank holiday weekend mornings) so I can rest. He’ll bring her to me when she’s hungry, and once she’s fed he’ll take her so I can go back to sleep. He said he’ll do that all day if I want him to so I can try and catch up on some sleep. It’s the little thoughtful things like this that he offers which makes me appreciate him so much!

Yesicancancan · 03/05/2019 20:15

I wasn’t going to post because it’s not nice to boast, and no one likes a show off.... I do feel a little guilty that all you lovely ladies do not have the top slot for a husband, because he is married to me!!!!

ControversialFerret · 03/05/2019 20:24

He's normal - sometimes thoughtless, selfish and can be quite sharp when he's stressed or pissed off. He snores like a wounded rhino and gets very grumpy if he's hungry and tired.

He's also loyal, screamingly funny, the most intelligent person I have ever met, capable, talented, interesting, well informed, a rad-fem ally (and a MN lurker) and is absolutely the person I want to spend my life with.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/05/2019 20:30

I just listened to mine have a long discussion with the cat about a spider she was playing with, then tell the spider he was going to rescue it. The spider is now in the garden. I love him because he is funny, and kind, the best kisser I have ever met, and my best friend. However I am under no illusions - he snores like a pig, is lazy with housework, and obsessed with football.

Sagradafamiliar · 03/05/2019 20:35

What a lovely thread, it makes me hopeful for the future :)

sheepsheep · 03/05/2019 21:36

My husband can be a bit daft and he can frustrate the life out of me, but I am hard to live with too so its all good.

He works hard, spends time with us all, doesn't drink, doesn't like football. Basically is just a nice guy. The best part is that he doesn't need his arse kissed over it like some of my exes, IYSWIM. He is genuinely just a nice human, rather than being nice and acting like that is something I should be grateful for.

I agree that sometimes the threads on here can really make you wonder. In particular, the threads about the men who go out drinking and just don't come home are so curious to me. I can't imagine that being acceptable, and feel sad that so many people think it is.

littlemeitslyn · 03/05/2019 21:41

God I'm so depressed about my single lonely life 😪

KellyW88 · 03/05/2019 22:13

Mine is my best friend and I couldn’t think of life without him.

He didn’t have to break down my walls when we met, I just let him through instinctively and with my history that is pretty unusual!

We’ve been through good and bad times (who hasn’t?!) but we’re currently going through the worst experience of our lives - I won’t post details as I don’t want to upset anybody, but through our mutual tragedy, I’ve been reminded every moment of every day since how much I love him and can depend on him (healthily) - I’m so glad to have him in my life :D
