To be freaking out about this? (Health)

Ive already posted this on general health but i haven't had any replies yet and im freaking out..

I have just been told by my haematologist consultant my blood results have come back with a positive lupus anticoagulant result meaning i have been diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome. I have already had two life threatening blood clots in my life and im only 25. She wants to see me in the next 2 weeks to discuss what she wants to do. How bad is this? Does anyone else have this?

I have health anxiety so im not dealing with this very well.

Didnt want to read and run, I have no idea what the diagnosis means BUT if it was very serious/bad i think she'd want to see you asap, not in 2 weeks.

Try not to worry too much, you won't achieve anything Flowers

My DM has this. You will probably need to be on some blood thinning medication for life (she's on warfarin) but day to day it doesn't have much of an impact.

Try to remember that even though it's scary, you know now and that means you're safer and far less likely to have another clot.

Im just worried about the risks with blood thinners. Shes really unsure what to do with me i think because both clots ive had are linked with pregnancy and contraception. But my last clot caused a stroke so yeah its weighing out the pros and cons.

You’ll be put on some sort of blood thinning medication. It will also be relevant when/if you want to conceive as this can affect fertility. But is usually combatted by taking the anticoagulant medication. Looking for positives it can be managed with medication and hopefully shouldn’t impact your daily life too much. Good luck with your appt OP 🙂

My dh has this. He takes blood thinners, goes for a finger prick test once a month to test his blood clotting levels but other than that it has little or no impact on him.

Xichuensis · 03/05/2019 15:07

Oh he also has blood tests every 3 or 6 months I can't remember which to check his liver.
He was diagnosed after having a pulmonary embolism so at the time it happened it was quite scary but he's been on warfarin for 2 years and like u said except for the tests it isn't something that effects him day to day.

Thanks for the replies. Id be more happy to be put on warfarin if i know it can be checked by blood tests reguarly. I also had a pulumary embolism so i know how you and your dh feel. Blood clots are very scary!
