...to ask how much?

.... how much £ is an appropriate leaving gift for a nursery key worker?

I think nursery workers are underpaid and they look after my DC all day so would like to be generous but don't want to go inappropriately OTT. I'll get a gift voucher so she can spend it on something she wants.

After seeing a thread on here about how much people tip their cleaners/ post men/ bin men (??!) at xmas, I am doubting my ability to judge.

Better off giving a bottle of wine, I think. If it has to be a voucher, I'd say £20.

StraffeHendrik · 02/05/2019 21:31

Thanks husky. Why would you say a bottle is better? Voucher is a bit impersonal I guess.

No they may not drink. I woukd go with a John Lewis/Waitrose voucher because then if they want a bottle they can get one or if not can get anything else eg. Makeup, stationery etc

StraffeHendrik · 02/05/2019 21:37

Thanks bobble- do you think £20 is the right ballpark?

I would have said £20 is fine and like a pp stated a John Lewis/ waitrose one is a good ide

Huskylover1 · 02/05/2019 22:04

I didn't think about people not drinking, oops.

I gave my nanny - also in London - £150 in John Lewis vouchers, but she had looked after my son full time for a whole year and she was moving house and there were lots of things that she needed. So I guess it depends on how much you value what they do, and how much you can afford. If the nursery worker is leaving and will get lots of gifts, or parents are clubbing together to get a gift, the. I would say a £10 contribution. If your child is leaving and you really want to thank them, I’d go higher - maybe £25? Maybe more?

I was thinking this earlier. My DD has been in nursery FT since 6 mo and will be leaving to go to school. She's had the same key worker for 2.5 years and she's amazing. Id like to give her something special as well as a voucher, I think. I'd probably go at least £25 (she was my eldest's key worker too).
