Dangerously low iron, due any day, AIBU?

So bit of backstory to set the scene:

DC2 due any day really (38 weeks on Monday). I have history of anaemia however it's been fine this pregnancy until about 10 days ago. They checked my ferritin on Monday but was put on different iron tablets in the meantime. I was working today but the mw left a message with DH saying they'll check my blood again on Monday, will get the results for Friday and if it's still so bad then they'll book me in for an infusion or transfusion (DH can't remember which). AIBU to just strongly request one now? I haemorrhaged last time (and likely to again apparently) so I don't want to risk leaving it so late that I may go into labour with a risk of haemorrhaging with apparently 'critically low' iron. AIBU to think they should book me in for an infusion ASAP/really strongly request one when I see mw on Monday?

Forgot to add I'm feeling really light-headed a lot as well so it's definitely affecting me.

Yes. Push for one. Yanbu. They should have offerered you one straight away.

Yes absolutely. I have very low iron (normal for me) and even I needed a transfusion after my first. Ask for it now!

dirtystinkyrats · 02/05/2019 18:48

Yes argue for it. I had to have an iron drip after DS2, actually felt worse after his relatively straightforward birth than traumatic c-section with eldest. (Although maybe that was all the drugs they gave me the first time...)

If it's your ferritin that's low and not your HB all you need is an iron infusion which will bring it up super quickly anyway - if your HB is fine that's what matters for PPH not the ferritin!

@Thenameisweasley I believe it is ferritin but they want to wait to see if the pills are working before giving an infusion; why not just give me one considering I could go into labour any day??

An iron infusion has a fairly high risk (no massively but higher than most) risk of causing a reaction. It can be pretty bad when that happens
