We are moving into a new to us rented house in the next two weeks. The bath has a shower over and a shower curtain. Due to the way the shower is positions, I can't put a screen up but i HATE shower curtains!! They make me feel ill Envy. I can't stand them touching me. They go mouldy. Eurgh....

Are there any other options that have passed me by or am I going to have to grin and bear the mould (I'll probably end up buying a new curtain every week to avoid this!!)?

I have seen people putting a roller blind on the ceiling and using that as a shower "curtain"? At least it's straight and won't wrinkle and touch you?

wigglypiggly · 02/05/2019 17:18

Mine doesnt go mouldy, its plain white and cost a couple of quid in wilko. Do you leave a window open or have an extractor fan

Tunnockswafer · 02/05/2019 17:19

I have always wanted a new curtain long before they go mouldy. The thicker plasticy ones don’t touch your body much compared to the more fabricy ones. I have a concertina screen now and it’s a bloody nuisance compared to the curtains.

I've got a shower screen at the moment which I love. It's easy to clean. I've only ever used curtains in hotels and they make me feel gippy

Mine always seem to go mouldy too despite airing the bathroom...

I have found that if you wet the side of the bath you can kind of stick the curtain too the bath so it doesn’t stick to you.

You can get magnetic clips which hold the curtain to the bath/wall so it doesn't cling to you.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just wash the shower curtain to stop it going mouldy.

BricksInTheWall · 02/05/2019 17:24

Google 'shower roller blind'. We had one in our old house, it was amazing. Made from Vinyl, didn't cling to you, quick dry off with a towel then use the chord to roll it back up

Famalamaringwrong · 02/05/2019 17:30

There isn't really a bath in existence now that you cant buy a shower screen for. Have you got a photo of the bath or something similar and I'll find you one? I had this problem in my bathroom when we moved in and got it sorted for £50 new off Ebay in the end, 2 years on the screen is still perfect and going strong!

PearlHeart3 · 02/05/2019 17:43

I've had a shower curtain for the last 18 months and it's never become mouldy. My shower originally had a glass screen installed but it was so ineffective because it wasn't long (wide) enough to stop the stream of water that would come out of the showerhead. Plus I always hated cleaning the glass screen. I live in a really hard water area and the plastic/rubber seal became so stained.

I have two white shower curtains now that I rotate on a monthly basis. I just put them in the wash at 40 degrees and no problem with mould. My bathroom retains a lot of moisture too (despite having an extractor fan installed). I'd personally just have a few sets curtains and rotate whilst the others are in the wash.

Regularly stick your shower curtain in the wash.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 02/05/2019 17:55

Could you install a curved rail for the shower curtain?
I've seen these in hotels and they really do keep the curtain away from you.
If the bath is steel, you can get shower curtain magnets that can help

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 02/05/2019 17:56

Have you got any photos so that we can suggest non curtainy altermatives?

SachaStark · 02/05/2019 18:00

I felt the same as you when we moved into our new rental, OP. Only ever had screens, and visiting friends who had curtains, I always thought they looked dirty, and got stuck to me in a hot shower!

I invested in a WEIGHTED shower curtain, which is so much better, as it never wants upwards on to me. It’s also in a very nice style to match the bathroom, so it doesn’t look cheap and horrid. Plus, I wash it frequently, so that helps.

Actually, I must admit, I prefer cleaning my shower curtain to cleaning a shower screen now! No need to fuss about marks on glass or trying to get up under the track now.

I love shower curtains. So much easier to keep clean. We have a glass screen in our rented house and I hate it. Literally hate it.

valentinoandme · 02/05/2019 18:17

We've just put up a curved rail and it works a treat as it holds it away from you and also makes the shower area seem huge! Very cheap from Argos but VERY sturdy and not wobbly at all. We also have a PVC shower curtain - more of a vinyl than fabric. Can't stand shower curtains that grab your ankles!
