To tell you about my smelly feet and ask for help (very embarrassed!)

I'm a bit too embarrassed to ask any RL friends about this and don't want to waste the GP's time with something so trivial.

I've been finding for quite a long time that straight after I've had a shower (and washed my feet!) they smell awful - in a cheesy stale way. I mean straight away like when I'm sitting on my bed straight after having a shower and haven't even got dressed yet. I don't know what it is and why it's happening. There's nothing about their visible appearance which is unusual. I wear bamboo socks and breathable shoes, I work from home a lot of the time so I have bare feet most of the time. I don't really ever wear tights, which I assume would encourage a problem like this.

Please can someone help me - if anyone knows if this is something in particular or how to stop it! It's a relatively recent problem.

I am so embarrassed, thank you in advance to anyone who can help!

Fungal nail infection maybe? I would try a pharmacist in the first instance.

From what I can gather it's bacteria on your skin causing the smell or could be a fungal infection.
Some advice on the link about treating fungal infections, and washing with antibacterial soap, keeping your toenails cut and filing off hard skin.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/05/2019 13:24

Do you actually scrub them with a brush and a bar of soap rather than shower gel?

Bitlost · 02/05/2019 13:27

I’d try washing with HibiScrub, an anti bacterial gel.

Myheartbelongsto · 02/05/2019 13:37

Do you drink op?

My boyfriend was a heavy drinker and had smelly feet, gave up drinking and smell has gone.

washinglions · 02/05/2019 13:56

Surgical spirit will be your friend here. Slosh a small amount in a bowl of warm water and soak your feet in it for a few minutes every day for a couple of weeks.

HavelockVetinari · 02/05/2019 14:00

Probably a fungal infection - get Lamisil Once and see if that does the trick. If not then see your GP.

Do your nails look normal?

PrincessCessy · 02/05/2019 14:02

Totally not what you asked for but you could sell your smelly shoes to pervs emmadrew.info/your-smelly-shoes-ebay/

Macandcheese05 · 02/05/2019 14:07

You could make a fortune on a foot fetish website selling used shoes and socks. The smellier the better.

Honeypickle · 02/05/2019 14:13

Fungal infection or athletes foot. Remember to treat your shoes too (anti fungal powder).

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 02/05/2019 14:17

HibiScrub Give them a good wash / soak
Then anti fungal like

You will need to treat shoes and socks too or you’ll reinfect yourself

EjectorCrab · 02/05/2019 14:22

So OP don’t be embarrassed, many people suffer with this, myself included. Something that literally changed everything for me was washing my feet with hibiscrub. You can but it at the chemists. I started washing with it daily, then every other day (normal
Shower gel in between), now twice a week (shower gel all other times).
I threw out all the shoes that smelled (mainly
Trainers) and new shoes and trainers now I wash with hibiscrub don’t smell.

JaneJeffer · 02/05/2019 17:46

Tea tree oil is good for smelly feet as it kills bacteria.

Are you sure soles of feet look completely normal op? I’ve only seen this once but worth thinking about and your Gp can treat it. Agree with everyone that it’s also worth thinking about athletes foot.

ArgusFilchsCat · 02/05/2019 18:07

What @washinglions said. Though I would rub it on raw with cotton wool (just make sure you don't have broken skin - ouch!)
Plastic shoes, even breathable ones are no good and use odor eating insoles and replace at least monthly.

Summersunsareglowing · 02/05/2019 18:13

Athletes foot. Put cream and powder on your feet as directed. Spores will stay on leather shoes in particular so need to be killed off with Athletes Foot powder. Put the powder into your socks before wearing too.
