Any advice on what to use to prevent spiders coming into property?

Live near 2 farms, pond, and a lake?

Are the supersonic high frequency noise plugs any good?

Any other ideas, conkers, peppermint oil?

Aibu to be this petrified of spiders?

I'm with you, OP, even clockwork's drawing of 'those we don't speak of' made me jump. I am extremely phobic and live rurally, I bought some spray from Amazon, which, unhelpfully has a massive picture of TWDSO on the front! It works though.

Those plug ins are good too.

oh and YA definitely NBU

Move to the moon?

I bet they have made it up there too

I have had two horrible horrible horrible spider incidents recently - not about to share in case I trigger anyone - but this has actually helped a lot with my arachnophobia and I have dealt with two (smaller) spiders all by myself and no longer scream every time I see one, which is a huge deal for me.

liquidfootball · 02/05/2019 11:55

BossAssBitch - actually you're probably right. Have you seen Starship Troopers?

CordeliaWyndamPryce · 02/05/2019 11:55

I don't particularly object to spiders, but I think my DSis has had some success with using the flea bomb things every few months.

Houseonahill · 02/05/2019 11:56

Essential oils are really good, I had about 3 or 4 big buggers last year when I used them and about one a week the year before when I didn't.

TheInebriati · 02/05/2019 11:57

Most spiders and ants don't like anything strong smelling such as camphor tablets, or a drop of clove oil on a cotton bud. Put them in any cracks or vents where they are likely to come in.

I really sympathise, OP, but there is no way of keeping spiders out of a house. If you can breathe in your house, a spider can get in. We get fewer big spiders in our new build than we got in older houses but we still get them.

If I were you I'd grab your fear by the scruff of the neck and try something like the London Zoo friendly spider course.

I like to keep my daddy long legs as they eat the nasty spiders.
Huntsman spiders are also good to keep as they like nasty spiders. However these are big scary looking buggers, so they get caught and chucked out😂
Ds1 got bitten by a spider on camp recently. Thankfully it wasn’t to bad but he had to have steroid cream and antibiotics. The circle is where the bite was and the arrows point out to where the redness and swelling went .
Moretein is my friend 😂

Indoorex anti flea fumigation spray. I do the whole house in August and April. Spiders are now rarely seen in my house. If I do come across one it is usually long dead.

JapaneseNotWeed · 02/05/2019 12:44

Pholcus phalangioides Sometimes called cellar spiders. Seriously, they are easy to encourage into your house and when settled they will live in a corner behind a bookcase or similar and will leave you alone. At night they come out and track down other bugs but on scent will track other larger spiders in particular. We live in an old rambling farmhouse with about 3-4 tucked away on each floor - I can see one now in the corner of the room. House spiders are a rarity ever since they moved in.
