Browsing on Rightmove and Apartment Therapy and all I want now is a quirky tiny studio flat above a coffee shop that's cheap and I work in the coffee shop and have time to go and meet my friends for drinks and browses in old bookshops and I am carrying the perfect battered old leather satchel that is all floppy. I'm sure I wear a quirky hat at times too.

Yep that's my life part time too. The other part is that I live in the rural countryside with acres of private land and when the weather's nice I have afternoon tea outside.

It will probably change to something else soon...

StCharlotte · 01/05/2019 12:37

I'm living in one of these at the moment. And I'm a Contessa. Wink

I'll start missing my (real) garden too much soon and have to "come home".

I'm living in a converted barn overlooking a private beach in Northumberland but it is always sunny in my back garden whilst at the front I can sit and watch the storms out at sea knowing that they are ones which won't cause problems for boats. I have a log fire which sets itself and a floor to ceiling library.

I don't know how long it'll last - probably until the school run and reality kicks in.

managedmis · 01/05/2019 12:47

Yessss me too.

I'll have a penthouse apartment overlooking the park in NYC.

I'll muse around museums in the day, drink coffee, people watch, cycle in the park and then go meet highly attractive sexy blokes at night in dark bars.

Oh I do. I either have a tiny house on wheels, or a place with an orangery.

T1nah · 01/05/2019 12:55

I've got a bijou townhouse in a cultured city and a bijou cottage somewhere in the pretty countryside (no mud or smells). I love DH and DC very much but my two residences are too bijou fir guests so it's just me and the dog.

BogglesGoggles · 01/05/2019 12:58

I’m a novelist living in a very old house out in the countryside. Every morning I pull on my wellies and go for a walk in my private woodsstill in my pyjamas before coming home to a breakfast of great coffee and freshly baked pastries prepared by my really lovely Mrs doubfireesque housekeeper.

ParkingIInPlainSight · 01/05/2019 12:59

I've got a fabulous old quirky cottage, with a gorgeous garden and an orangery, and I potter around all day while the quirky arty interesting people of the village/small town update me with gossip.

And it's close enough to an unspecified city where I waft around to art galleries and stay at night in my bijou loft apartment if needed.

DP and I have a lovely flat in a converted warehouse near London Bridge, with huge big windows and lots of exposed brick. The furniture is fairly industrial in style, contrasted with a few wooden bits and beautiful vintage rugs, and there are cool, bespoke paintings on the walls. When we're out and about we'll point out bits of furniture and art to each other and discuss whether they would work in our flat.

Sadly, we actually live in a very unremarkable/ugly 1970's building, in a flat that was mostly furnished courtesy of IKEA Grin

Mine is a small cozy log cottage with mountain views and lots of fruit trees. Off-grid but not lots of effort. Friends and neighbours visit for weekend barbecues. It’s always spring or autumn and no troublesome insects, just bees 🐝 Easy to get to the city apartment when it suits.

Just this morning I was thinking how UNFAIR it is that I'm not waking up at lunchtime in a posh London 1930s flat with a butler running my bath and bringing me champagne and poached eggs.

peachgreen · 01/05/2019 13:14

I share a Georgian terrace in SW London with my quirky flatmates who have become like my family. I work part time in a bookshop and act at night. I'm currently doing a summer season at The Globe - not a leading role, but definitely a boost for my career, and I'm about to start dating one of my fellow cast-members - right now we're trying to resist temptation but it's not going to last, the chemistry is too much. My eccentric but loving parents live in a ramshackle old house in the Surrey countryside and I sometimes go there at weekends to cuddle my dog, go for long walks and read lots of books. I'm striking rather than beautiful but effortlessly stylish.

cranstonmanor · 01/05/2019 13:30

I have a pinterest board for all the ideas for the tiny house that I would build if I was 20- something again.

elp30 · 01/05/2019 13:37

Crochetmonkey74: Thanks OP for sharing your thoughts. I thought I was the only one. It's nice to know I'm not alone.
I'm off to make a Pinterest board.

Glad it's not just me! Some amazing details of fantasy lives/homes on here! I have various idylls, they are always very clean and tidy, v far from actual home!

I have a tiny but fabulous flat in Fitzrovia. I don’t live there full time but it’s incredibly handy when I want to stay in London. I love catching the latest plays and then having a late supper somewhere fabulous, like the dining room at The Goring, or Rules.

birdy1978 · 01/05/2019 13:52

I live on a public transport route with a shop, cafe and park within walking distance. My husband works close enough to come home every night, and I have friends living within an hour’s drive.

OnlineAlienator · 01/05/2019 13:55

Ha, i thought i was the only one with a fantasy other life Grin

averythinline · 01/05/2019 14:03

ooh a ventian plazzo ...(with no mosquitos) I could add that to the grand design house by the sea in Skye with no midges
and my share in the carribean hut from Death in Paradise....and my farmhouse in not a lot of rain snowdonia.....
and the house on Rhossili beach...and the Flat in Rotherhithe or Grenwich....
My portfolio is large but everyone has a purpose......couldnt do pinterest think would be too depressing Grin and distract from my actual need for a not threadbare carpet and mouldy wall in my front room

Outofexcuses · 01/05/2019 14:05

Hello from the deep countryside of rural France. I have a small but exquisite cottage on the edge of a bustling village which is surprisingly well endowed in cultural terms. When I am not teaching English to the charming children of my neighbours (they adore me) I sit in cafes or sketch. I have a dog which does not poo.

BiscuitDrama · 01/05/2019 14:05

I just can’t decide between country cottage or city flat (old, with character, naturally).

VixenAbroad · 01/05/2019 14:10

Hello from my set in Albany. I live here when I am in town and write novels - my adoring public can’t wait to snap up the next instalment as my fascinating historical heroine is all the rage. When inspiration has run dry I simply inform the staff that I am going back home and decamp to my country residence which the other staff have kept titvated in my absence. The dog travels with me.
