To expect fruit to last longer than two days?

I recently bought a pack of Oaklands easy peelers from a popular German supermarket and every day since one has gone mouldy. We ended up with 4 mouldy, 2 ok. So i'm asking how can it be cheaper shopping at these places?! It's a false economy. You pay more at other supermarkets but at least stuff lasts longer than a couple of days. Found reviews online saying exactly the same about these "amazing" low-cost supermarkets. I can't stand the places!

I buy very little fruit and veg from aldi. a couple of things are OK, but I prefer loose fruit and veg.

I've posted on here before about my experience with mushrooms at Aldi.

I needed mushrooms (nothing else) and Aldi was the closest shop. None of the packs of mushrooms looked great but I chose the best looking one. It was about 5 days or so in date.

I got home and took the cellophane off the top. The top layer of mushrooms were ok but not great but all the ones underneath were awful and a lot were mouldy and/or slimy. I phoned Aldi and all they said was "bring the receipt in and we will refund you". Oh yeah really worth the petrol to drive back!

In over 30 years of buying mushrooms at least 3 times a month it was the very first time I have ever bought mushrooms that were mouldy and slimy.

I rarely go in Aldi now but on the few occasions I do I always look at their fruit and veg and most of it looks pretty bad

Maybe it varies in different areas.
I'm near Cardiff and Barry and we have lots of Aldi and Lidl stores and their fresh produce lasts as long as any other supermarket. I've never had any mouldy stuff from there.
I avoid Asda produce here as that does go off within a day or two and when their grapes are on offer (as they are now) I know they'll taste sour.

@mydogisthebest.. So annoying about the mushrooms. Exactly, it's not worth the petrol driving there and back to get a refund and they know that. And you can't post a photo online and get a refund that way either like you can with other supermarkets who do home delivery

Fruit and veg in Aldi and Lidl definitely depends on the store. We are pretty lucky with ours and the quality is really good but I have heard lots of complaints from folk shopping at other branches. I'm not sure whether it's supplier issues or poor storage at some stores.
I buy lots of food from Waitrose but I'm not a huge fan of much of their fruit and veg, their avocados are superb though.

Just took back a pack of salmon purchased from Waitrose that looked really weird when I unwrapped it, no problem got my money back, though it did leave me scrambling around for something that could be cooked from frozen for an alternative dinner last night.
