I find a lot of users on here don't offer support but ridicule and make hurtful comments to other users just because they are behind a keyboard ....

There is a fine line between people's opinions and people just being rude . I am sure if half of these debates were in a physical room then half of the comments would not be made

No we don't! I am NOT argumentative!

(Surely you saw this coming OP)

Takethebuscuitandthesink · 30/04/2019 22:21

Maybe a loud minority but i come on here to give advice as do the vast majority of posters I have come across even if we do disagree.

Sallyseagull · 30/04/2019 22:22

I've definitely seen users hellbent on taking someone's words, twisting them and then arguing with the user about them. It's just a select few though.

GunpowderGelatine · 30/04/2019 22:23

Is this a joke? this has GOT to be a reverse. You sound lovely OP Hmm. Don't you have children to be looking after?

Years ago when I was feeling quite frustrated and unhappy with life I used to occasionally start threads in AIBU knowing full well that a fight would ensue. Always over fairly trivial stuff, mind. Anyway, the fights were really cathartic because I couldn't have a good argument in real life.

So yes, people do come here to fight.

Jimdandy · 30/04/2019 22:34

If people choose to ask for opinions on whether or not they are being unreasonable then they are going to get a range of opinions. People are complex so that’s why our views differ so much?

There’s nothing I have ever said on a forum I wouldn’t say to anyone’s face. Always happy to debate anything with anyone if it’s a subject I have a view on.

tillytrotter1 · 30/04/2019 23:30

Is this a five minute argument or the full half hour?

Bestfootforward1 · 30/04/2019 23:53

I'm not arguing, I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Greeborising · 30/04/2019 23:58

Look there’s two opinions here
Mine and yours
We both know which one is right
😉

MyRankIsSuperintendent · 01/05/2019 00:15

I'm tending to veer away from AIBU at the moment for this reason. People are much lovelier on other boards but you have to wait longer for replies so patience is a virtue.

Preggosaurus9 · 01/05/2019 00:19

Sometimes it's nice to have an argument / dash of grammar pedantry. It's a healthy outlet for our misanthropic tendencies. Also being allowed to be dead clever, which in real life we're not allowed to be as women have to be Naice all the time even when inside we're thinking "You utter idiot". Nod smile etc.

Mrskeats · 01/05/2019 00:22

It’s ‘a lot’. I will argue about that one all day as it’s so annoying.

TheBlackDogFollowsHim · 01/05/2019 00:36

Yes. There are some embittered bitches on this site. Some lovely people too but there are some scum bags

KateyKube · 01/05/2019 00:41

I posted on a thread by a single mum that I also struggle with being stuck at home with DC every night, and was told that I’m horrible and I’m not allowed to struggle because I’m married Hmm

RhubarbIsEvil · 01/05/2019 11:21

Is this a 5 minute argument or the full half hour?

NoSauce · 01/05/2019 11:23

I think there’s probably some posters that do tbf. There’s many that don’t though.

NoSauce · 01/05/2019 11:24

It’s ‘a lot’. I will argue about that one all day as it’s so annoying

Yikes you’re brave. I agree with you though.

PregnantSea · 01/05/2019 12:02

Yup. I don't mind people expressing different views (surely that's the whole point of an internet forum) but it annoys me when people get arsey about silly things and then derail the whole thread.

Common ones include:
OP uses word gender instead of sex, huge transgender debate ensues
OP mentions that they are a single parent and thread turns into a who is the most single parent of them all and who has the right to use the term
OP gets cat called, cue huge battle over what feminism really is and how everyone except me is doing it wrong

I could go on and on...

TheInebriati · 01/05/2019 12:04

TheBlackDogFollowsHim I'd be surprised if most of the contrarians were women.

TheFastandCurious · 01/05/2019 12:58

I just saw a comment where someone had come on literally just to post, “The problem is YOU!”

I wondered to myself what they got from taking the time to post that. It wasn’t helpful, so they must have derived some pleasure just from being nasty.

I don’t get it. I can have an argument and say mean stuff but if you’ve not been attacked and nobody is talking to you, WHAT do you get out of wading in just to be a tosser?

It’s weird.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 01/05/2019 13:25

Isn't this what you've created this thread to do, OP?

Because its object seems to me not to request others' support, advice or even opinions. Nor is it calculated to provoke anything resembling positive debate. It's to seek endorsement for your own (negative) views, and to criticize others.

CustardySergeant · 01/05/2019 13:29

"Is this a 5 minute argument or the full half hour?"

Oi! I was going to say that! Grin

Seriously though, I immediately thought of that sketch too.

SilverySurfer · 01/05/2019 13:43

I disagree - people are entitled to hold different opinions and if you don't want to hear those opinions, don't ask.

Lockheart · 01/05/2019 13:47

This is AIBU. It's the bunfight forum. It's supposed to be argumentative.

If you want support and proper advice, post in a more appropriate forum.
