To ask for long haul beach destinations during April/May where climate isn't scorching?

Thinking ahead to next year when I have a milestone birthday...where to go with friends for an interesting beach holiday - as in things to see as well as lovely beach - but where the temperature isn't in the forties!

Any suggestions? Mind gone blank

Maui?

thenightsky · 30/04/2019 10:32

I've just come back from Dominican Republic (significant birthday treat). It was around 28c every day and occasionally rained overnight. There were snorkelling trips, boat trips, quad biking in the jungle and a day in the capital of Santa Domingo which is castles and cannons and very Pirates of the Caribbean.

Miami/Florida - it’s a lovely temperature that time of year. Or any of the Canary Islands would be warm but not too hot, although not exactly long-haul. It will be autumnal in Oz but their cold is our warm IYSWIM.
How exciting!

Vietnam, near Hoi An.

Sciurus83 · 30/04/2019 10:35

The Azores?

mauritius in may was lovely, maldives a bit hotter but also slightly boring after 10 days Blush dubai quite doable, cuba very nice, rains a little every day but that just seemed to freshen everything up - I know egypt is not long haul but we found that to cruise the nile and enjoy all the fantastic sightseeing that may was pretty perfect.

I second Florida, just come back and the weather was perfect. The Gulf Coast is beautiful.

DesparateDino · 30/04/2019 11:46

California?

TitusAndromedom · 30/04/2019 11:49

Thailand, depending on which part.

araiwa · 30/04/2019 12:13

Not thailand or se asia generally

April / may is end of hot season and start of rainy season

Qantas fly non stop to Perth. Loads of beach here. It was 30 degrees the other day. Walks, vineyards etc all easy to get to.

NotPennysBoat · 30/04/2019 14:17

Just got back from Hoi An, Vietnam. It was most definitely scorching!!

Planetian · 30/04/2019 14:28

Bali 👌🏼

VeepVeep · 30/04/2019 14:33

So many great suggestions! Thanks.

Vietnam - @NotPennysBoat - how hot was it? I'm really drawn to Vietnam.

San Diego. Lovely all year round and lots to do and see.

NotPennysBoat · 30/04/2019 20:39

Vietnam was amazing, but it was mid 30s in the shade (even at 9am) and so humid. It was really uncomfortable to walk around - we found ourselves counting down to when we could get back to the hotel pool!

VeepVeep · 01/05/2019 09:18

Mid 30s in the shade! Noooo....

Why long haul? May is a perfect time of year for Europe. Just been to Crete for Easter. Stunning and plenty of sights. Bit fresh at Easter but May would be perfect. I'm sure there are other options too.

Otherwise I reckon Cuba might be a good bet? I've not been but heard good things.

It kinds of depends on your definition of "interesting". Some of the places people have mentioned don't seem all that interesting to me. And does "beach" mean a resort, or something a bit wilder? Perfect white sand, or dramatic rocks?

The weather in California would be perfect I think. I think North California is more interesting, but not really beachy enough?

SerenDippitty · 01/05/2019 09:29

We've just come back from Dubai and temperature wise it was very pleasant. Ot but breezy. Nice beaches and plenty to see and do.
