To think I could have chicken pox?

Our nanny was off sick last week. She phoned today and said it turns out she had shingles.
I wasn’t worried about infections because the kids have all had chickenpox. I haven’t had them but had a blood test before my first pregnancy which showed I had immunity.
Earlier I noticed I had a spot/insect bite on my chest. Later noticed one on just above my navel and now have one on my back.
If my bloods showed immunity 17 years ago and presumably on subsequent pregnancies I should still be immune and any thoughts of CP are in my imagination?

You can’t have chicken pox but you could have shingles

Sorry! My last post is wrong

You can only get chickenpox from shingles if you've never had chickenpox ie not immune. Presumably you are still immune if your blood test said so.
The spots do sound a bit suspicious but could be coincidence. If there are more get yourself checked out.

I had horrific CP from Ds1. Gp assured me I would never get it again and he was right.

And afaik you can't 'catch' shingles. It happens when the virus reactivates in your body (I think)- not connected to anyone else.

Alicewond · 30/04/2019 02:31

You can catch chickenpox from someone with shingles but not vice versa, would require physical contact though

You can only be immune to chickenpox if you’d already had it or if you’ve had a vaccine

Otherwise it’s likely a rash, maybe from stress?

HoustonBess · 30/04/2019 02:42

Shingles would be along a single nerve branch thing, not in multiple places. I can't imagine you could have both shown immunity and got three kids thru cp if you hadn't had it.

Tumblefluff · 30/04/2019 09:29

If your blood test showed immunity you could have had a sub clinical case (where little to no evidence of the disease is present) apparently.

You can also (very rarely) catch chicken pox a second time.

I'm not a doctor so I have no idea how the testing works, but if your immunity could have somehow failed since your test it would be possible to have chicken pox...

I do know that adult chicken pox is very nasty (DH caught it from the kids a few weeks ago), so it would be worth getting checked out just in case.

My dad had chicken pox twice. It is possible but very rare.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 30/04/2019 09:45

What do the spots look like? Do they have a big central blister? If they look like insect bites, it's not chicken pox.

Inniu · 30/04/2019 13:12

No extra spots today. They do look like CP spots though.

I wonder how I can know for sure. I might need to go to my GP.
I am bringing a group of Beavers camping at the weekend and it probably would not be a great plan if these actually are CP.

I had CP immunity whilst pregnant - but managed to catch it at age 36 along with all 3 of my kids...
Do you feel ill?

Inniu · 30/04/2019 13:28

I do feel I’ll but have been feeling ill since Saturday:Sunday so before spots.

You cant catch shingles from shingles or chicken pox.

But you can catch chicken pox from both of them and then one day have shingles from the dormant virus. This is highly unlikely in this instance though. Also shingles is very bloody painful.

If you have immunity OP then you have had chicken pox at somepoint, you might have just been a lucky toddler who got one or two spots so it was never noticed.

Also they start behind the ears and as an adult they would be 100× worse than as a child. My husband ended up in hospital with Chicken pox when he was in his 20's. I've never seen anyone so poorly.

campion · 30/04/2019 14:16

If it is CP, as an adult you'll definitely feel ill. I was in bed, felt like death and could barely stagger to the loo.
I had antibiotics too as some of my spots were a bit nasty.
But if you've previously shown some immunity it probably wouldn't be too bad. Don't think the Beavers trip's a good idea though.

Fiveredbricks · 30/04/2019 14:17

You're supposed to catch it as a kid for a reason. Chicken pox can be so horrific for adults it can be life threatening and leave adults blind and infertile - but people forget that 😳

campion · 30/04/2019 14:20

Mine didn't start behind my ears Fiveredbricks. A couple on my arm and stomach one day then a zillion everywhere within 2 days.
