To ask how you B12 deficient people feel??

Last year my B12 was running low. Nothing was done. Currently I’m barely functioning. I have so little energy that I can’t even be arsed to eat. My weight is dropping, I feel like absolute shit. I can’t be arsed to read, watch TV, play my computer game ... nothing. I’m very close to having to go on sick and I only work 4 mornings a week as it is.

Just had my bloods redone and I’m not officially B12, ferritin and folate deficient. I’ve always had iron defiency but the tiredness was nothing compared to this so I’m thinking it’s the B12 that has finished me off. I can’t see a doctor until next week.

Can I ask how you felt when you first became B12 deficient and was it as bad as what I’m saying? Because I’m starting to worry that I’m seriously ill. Never felt like this is my life.

Have you had your vit D levels tested? That wiped me out - I also got every bug that was going around harder and for longer than the norm. I've also had low vit B but my main symptom there was my hair falling out.

Hair falling out, breathlessness. Tachycardia. Pins and needles in my arms, hands. Inability to concentrate. Insomnia. Just a few of the symptoms I experienced.

Could it be your thyroid?? I have low thyroid stimulating hormone levels which means that although my thyroid levels are fine per se, my body is working hugely hard to make enough. IYSWIM?

My main symptoms when it’s bad or when I’ve run out of tablets for few days are: restless legs, hair falling out, tired verging on exhausted, depressed, foggy brain and just very low health wise. The restless legs and exhaustion are the biggest indicators for me.

Do you have your actual numbers for your blood results?

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 29/04/2019 15:45

Fatigue, confused, pins and needles, poor concentration to name a few

Sorry my OP should say I’m NOW officially deficient in b12, folate and ferratin.

I originally got my bloods redone due to tachycardia, breathlessness and palpitations. But on top of that I have pins and needles in my hands, stuttering, forgetting words mid sentence, insomnia and this god awful tiredness that is stopping me from actually functioning.

My thyroid is satisfactory. I can’t get exact numbers until I see the dr

Yes, all of these ring a bell. Have you been put on a course of B12 injections every other day for a week or so? I think that’s the usual course of action and will make you feel markedly better very quickly. I went through this two years’ ago and it was definitely the worst I’ve ever felt.

I was borderline B12, Folic and Iron deficient for years and I felt just like you. Last year I was given a prescription for all three and I've been feeling better than ever. More energy during the day, sleeping better at night, less aches and pains. My attention span and interest in things like TV, games, books and crafts came back too.

I take C and D tablets too (not prescription) and all combined make such a difference - start taking them as soon as you can.

B12 and folate deficiency give me metallic taste in mouth/everything tastes bitter, sore red mouth, boils, sluggish, completely emotionally flat, days past whilst staring at a wall - can't read, watch TV, make phone calls, fetch something from the other side of the room, find the right words etc. Flares other chronic conditions. Fatigue (but not sleepiness) like wading through treacle. Putting everything off and really can't function in real life. Make sure you have tests after they've given you loading doses of folate and I went through a few cycles of loading dose-deficiency and back again before realising I now have to supplement every day to keep good levels.

I don't have iron deficiency but am also but D deficient like most people. I had megablastic anaemia when my deficiencies were diagnosed.
