Photos of naked babies on Facebook would you report it?

Just want to see what other people think of this I've recently had three friends post pictures of their newborns and obviously they are proud new parents and want to share their baby but they have also included one of them totally naked and it makes me really uncomfortable mainly because you never know who is lurking online and these have all been people I don't know that well so I'd assume have a lot of other passing acquaintances as friends! I recently saw someone I used to work with prosecuted for paedophilia and that made me question this kind of thing even more as you don't really know what people are like in private! Would you report them to Facebook for posting these photos?

Depends on their privacy settings. My Facebook is fully private and I only have true friends and family on it.

One was my old boss where said paedophile also worked (don't know if they were friends on Facebook but it's really possible)

One was someone I worked with in 2009

and third is someone I've not seen since 2011

So not close friends it's a concern for me as I would never think of posting photos online like that but I have studied a lot on child safeguarding through out my career and that's the reason I feel it's so wrong!

Shock maxi good point.. I don't have FB any more tbh.
I remember dd getting a Cinderella costume for Christmas as she looked so cute I wanted to share it but my colleague was telling me how they (pedos) like to use pictures of children in costume so I daren't put it up.

Am I understanding correctly, you want to report a parent for posting an innocent picture of their own baby to their friends on Facebook? Madness.

LordWheresMyShoes · 29/04/2019 09:58

As others have said, it seems that paedophiles who steal images of children to store on their own computer for their kicks, have images of fully clothed children, not naked ones.

More just wanting opinions on what other people would do in that situation! It is obviously totally innocent from them but it also goes against child safeguarding laws. I am really interested in people's opinions

(I'm a psychologist so it is genuinely interesting to me to know what people think!)

I don’t post any pictures of my child online at all. I have asked all family members to not post anything online as well.
This is to respect my child’s privacy and identity. Too many weirdos around now and it’s my job to protect my child.

MrsWillGardner · 29/04/2019 10:08

Yes I would. I’ve reported photos of older kids with their bits out and FB removed them.

leftovercoffeecake · 29/04/2019 10:09

This is tricky. But if the baby's genitals are showing, then yes, I'd report it. I don't think that should be on facebook.

It's sick and twisted, but it's the world that we live in and we have to accept that paedophilia exists.

Once something goes on the internet, it's hard to take back. Even if you delete the photo, someone else might have already saved it.

Also, I know that a lot of people are saying that pedo's only save photos of fully clothed children, but there's nothing stopping them from going on this person's profile and looking at the picture as many times as they want. So they haven't saved it, but they can still view it.

We need to protect children. I can't think of one good reason that their naked photos need to be uploaded onto social media. If you think it's a cute photo, then maybe crop it.

twosoups1972 · 29/04/2019 10:10

Ugh, posting ANY photos of your child is really off. Wait till they're old enough to give permission for their photo to be posted online.

catherinehall2004 · 29/04/2019 10:11

no, they are just babies

polarisation · 29/04/2019 10:24

Not sure if this has been posted on MN recently, but last week it was discovered that pictures from school Twitter accounts had been uploaded to a Russian paedo site stv.tv/news/scotland/1437111-scots-children-s-school-pics-on-paedophile-meeting-place/

Yabbers · 29/04/2019 10:24

Even just pictures of children wearing costumes, they don't have to be naked

Which they can get, in abundance at any beach on a sunny day. Or from any online kidswear site. This has always been the case and whatever happens on Facebook isn’t going to stop it.

Yabbers · 29/04/2019 10:25

goes against child safeguarding laws
No it doesn’t.

Jellybeansincognito · 29/04/2019 10:29

If there’s genitals exposed then of course it should be reported. I’m not too keen on sharing bums either, babies bums are undoubtedly cute but what age does it become intrusive? The lines are blurred so it shouldn’t be done.
You wouldn’t post a photo of your 7-8 year olds bare arse as cute so don’t do it to your babies- keep those to yourself.

Owwlie · 29/04/2019 18:33

I would, although if they were close friends/family I'd have a chat first.

Only because I've attended safeguarding training at work and been warned about this and the risk of them ending up on paedophille sharing sites.

AngelaJ18 · 29/04/2019 21:34

Personally I don’t want pictures of my baby on the internet. The only photo I posted he was in the background and his face was covered. I don’t want him to grow up and be embarrassed because of pictures I posted. What goes on the internet never goes away.

PregnantSea · 29/04/2019 22:04

I wouldn't report this. But then I wouldn't post any photos of my baby/child on social media either.
