Fully prepared to be told I'm crazy and to go to bedGrin

I have emetophobia and my stomach really hurts atm. It's more of a (TMI) I need the toilet feeling rather than puking thankfully.

I do have IBS and get loose stools when anxious so that's probably what it is but it still freaks me out as I work myself up Sad

I'm sitting here shaking, really tired and I just want to go to bed but I need to calm myself down.

Anyone else emetophobic? How do you deal with feeling sick/anxiety?

@Weegobshite That is literally something I would do! I used to run home from school in secondary and college during the middle of the day if someone mentioned they'd been sick/feel sick or even if they said a sibling was sick!

Run the back of your left hand under the cold tap. I know it sounds stupid but a maths teacher told me this many moons ago and I always do it when I get nauseous and I instantly feel my stomach settle.

sundaybluecoffee · 29/04/2019 00:06

@Moodycoo ooooh this sounds interesting, maybe it's a pressure point or something to do with the coldness? I'll definitely try this when it gets bad!

Currently in bed, scrolling mumsnet, perfect cure to anxietySmile stomach feels like it's slowly settling too.

Op I know exactly how you I feel, I also have emetophobia. I’m currently having therapy for it. What helps me is what I’ve been doing at therapy so Ive been told is you will have an anxiety and what I call a panic feeling but there is only so much anxiety the body can produce. So once that’s done the anxiety stops, so it’s like what goes up must come down so the anxiety goes up it will come back down.

horsemadgal · 29/04/2019 00:19

Gripe water is the stuff you give babies for colic Grin

I put my wrists under the cold running water, they are pressure points for nausea. Same idea as the travel bands. And handy sometimes to be close to sink Shock

sundaybluecoffee · 29/04/2019 00:20

@Notamumonhere That's really good advice, thank you!

Yeah mine seemed to have gone down for a bit just now but it's gone back up again Sad

So scared.

I'm an emetaphobe too, I can fight being sick myself, throwing up is the very last resort. I can't deal with anyone else being sick, I end up joining in or have a panic attack, I can't even deal with my DS & I'm his mum, it's awful.

Notamumonhere · 29/04/2019 00:25

Your welcome. I’m glad it helped for a little while anyway. I hope it goes away. I completely understand I also have ibs and a fear of sick, it’s horrible. Have you ever had counciling for emtophobia? Is it something you would consider?

sundaybluecoffee · 29/04/2019 00:30

@Notamumonhere I've never had counselling for it & definitely would like to! Don't think the NHS offer it though.Sad

@Nat6999 It doesn't make you a bad mum so don't worry about that! Thanks

It's so hard isn't it, I can't imagine having to hold myself together for my children too when I'm anxious!

@sundaybluecoffee from my experience it’s definitely helped. They do that’s what I’m having mine on, I’ve not paid

Candleglow7475 · 29/04/2019 06:51

Hi 👋🏻 how are you OP? My dd made it through the night without puking and I hope you did too.

sundaybluecoffee · 29/04/2019 07:06

Glad you’re okay. I suck mints, don’t know why it helps but it works for me.

I also use disposable sick bags rather than buckets if the worst happens as there is no cleaning up to do afterwards.
