To ask who keeps any winnings?

So, dd (over 18) is out of the country for the week end.
On arriving at the airport she realised she hadn't put her regular Lotto line on for tonight - need be in the UK to play using her app.
I agreed to use my cash with her numbers to enable her to enter as per usual.
If she were to win however, who would be entitled to the cash?
Lighthearted as chances of a win are likely nil as per usual!!

Her. If she'd asked you to buy chocolate for her, you wouldn't then get to eat it. You're buying it for her. She should pay you back for the ticket, but any winnings are hers.

Although in practice, I'd be expecting a split, but it is up to her to decide that, not you.

By law you get the winnings as the contract (ie you purchasing the ticket) is with you. However, I would send a message to DD and say you’ve bought the ticket and you’ll split 50/50 if win. That’s a contract is you both agree.

Legally - the winnings would be yours - to use the old adage on MN 'no one owns a name the numbers'. Presumably its your cash or your bank account .

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 27/04/2019 16:55

100% your winnings. You paid so you win!

Purpleartichoke · 27/04/2019 16:59

Legally, you.
Ethically, your dd

Actually, you should discourage her from spending regular money on the lottery. A fun lark every now and then is one thing, but a regular purchase is worrisome.

I got asked to buy someone a ticket with their numbers...
Hides head in hands, I bought a second one same numbers...
It won £250.... I never told them
They didn't even offer me a drink when I hand it over... They already knew it had won...
So pleased I nicked their numbers

The DD is over 18 , presumably she is woman with complete control of her faculties. I doubt she's going to be off to Gamblers Anonymous because of £2 habit
