Ridiculous to ask for most I know but I really don’t like wasting doctors time and if there’s a better place to put this then please direct me!

On the 24th of February I began my period, it’s usually heavy and I bleed (along with spotting) for around 9 days, that’s normal for me however. But what isn’t normal is ever since every 7-10 days I’ve begun spotting then heavy bleeding again and have just started period 4 since the 24th Feb.

(Basically a period every 10 do 14 days now.
I’m due a smear test and have had to cancel several times now due to this happening.

Should I just wait for my body to even itself out? Or should I book in and speak with a doctor?

I guess I don’t want to incase something is seriously wrong, but I’m starting to feel dizzy and poorly with the amount of ‘period’ I have gone through recently.
Tia!

I do not understand the reluctance of so many posters on MN to see a doctor for health issues.
Go to the doctor.

mynameiscalypso · 26/04/2019 21:27

I went to the doctor for exactly the same reason. I was prescribed norethisterone to try and regulate my cycle and iron supplements because I was anaemic. We never got to the bottom of the reason why it happened but that's because I got pregnant much to my surprise the cycle after the norethisterone. It's pretty miserable I know but my GP did take it seriously.

Jellybeansincognito · 26/04/2019 21:30

I guess I just don’t feel like it warrants taking the time away from someone else seeing the doctor?
It’s nice for someone to validate that it’s not a waste of the nhs’s time.

Yes definitely something to go and talk to your Dr about. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

cashmerecardigans · 26/04/2019 21:34

I would go to the GP - anything unusual should be looked at. When I had similar they were great and took it seriously. It turned out to be fine, but I’d get it checked out

Harleyisme · 26/04/2019 21:34

From what i have read on smear tests if you are bleeding like you are they advise you to book the smear test and go talk to nurse and they will likely do it even if you are bleeding. They would do smear for this curcumstances even if you arent due ususally.

Jellybeansincognito · 26/04/2019 21:36

@Harleyisme when I spoke to reception she said that because it’s period bleeding they have to wait 10 days of me being clear to do a smear test, problem is I haven’t been 10 days clear yet 😩

And thanks guys.
Hopefully I’m fine! It’s always a worry

Thats because they say best time to have one is in the middle of your cycle but at the moment thats not happening for you. Book with gp and talk to them.

wolfmom · 26/04/2019 21:44

Please speak to your doctor, I had bleeding for 3 out of every 4 weeks and it turned out it was something serious (although not common under 40)

Jellybeansincognito · 26/04/2019 21:45

I’m sorry to hear that @wolfmom. Should I go to out of hours or wait until Monday?

wolfmom · 26/04/2019 21:49

Go Monday, they will do necessary tests whilst you are bleeding if it's that frequent. If you feel dizzy at all see someone. Hope it's nothing serious
