To want carpet not floorboards

DH wants us to get the living room floor sanded and sealed but I prefer carpet. Are wooden floors dusty and energy inefficient? Or are they nicer than carpets?

I’m the same as your husband I’m not a fan of carpet and the thought of all the germs living in it makes me cringe Blush I’ve never had a problem with my wood flooring, as long as you clean it often you won’t see any dust (I do mine daily) much easier to keep clean and I personally find it more comfortable under foot. Best thing to do is get samples of what each of you like and compare it in the room against decor etc. You can get a nice big rug to cover wood flooring if you decide it’s not for you.

I much prefer my floorboards, I find it is easier to keep them clean and they don't stain if Big Foot DP knocks over his cup of tea.

Floorboards and a lovely rug sounds like a great compromise.

Carpets collect dust! Floorboards are lovely 😍

The difference in dust with hard floors is that it's all visible and easy to clean up, compared to nestling away in the carpet for the mites to have a nice snack.

Yes, fitted carpet feels lovely, but despite vacuuming daily with an expensive cleaner and washing it with a cleaner monthly (using a professional one every three months) when it was time to lift it as I was moving, I could hardly breathe and was itching all over from the dust - I'd only had the carpet for five years.

I now have hard floors everywhere except the stairs and landing, plus a thick rug in our bedroom. Which is a bastard to keep clean in comparison.

I would love floorboards. Husband insists on carpet, even though we have a dog who sometimes sicks up on it. Angry

Another point to consider is how old you or your parents or PILs are?

We have a DC with epilepsy; and have much experience of the injuries following a fall (after a seizure). If DC falls on a carpet, they may get a carpet burn; if they fall on a hard floor they may break a tooth or a bone! I myself fell on polished floorboards as a child and fractured my humerus.

Floorboards & rugs. Easy to clean when feline accidents occur (I say accidents but I'm sure DCat2 waits until I've cleaned the floors to bring up his dinner), quick to get rid of mucky pawprints. I wouldn't go back to carpets now.

I had floorboards and a big rug. I found floorboards looked dusty and I always seemed to be cleaning and polishing. They also started to look scruffy when the polish/stain wore off.
I got carpets fitted last year and prefer it.
