In thinking the undertone to the new M&S advert is verging on inappropriate?

I’m sorry if this has already been posted but this new M&S advert is really not leaving a good taste in my mouth.

Yes it’s all very light-hearted, husband has dinner ready for wife coming in for work and wife phones to say she is planning on going for a few drinks with the girls. I guess they are at least trying, in that respect to not gender stereotype but ultimately wife is guilt tripped into not going for a few drinks with friends because her husband had already made dinner and goes as much to tell her friends that she is coming home...

All said in the annoying and vomit inducing, this isn’t just and old food voice.

Am I looking too deeply into this or is it verging on attempting to normalise manipulative and controlling behaviour?

Some people have far too much free time if they get bothered by a TV ad!

HarryDaylight · 26/04/2019 18:41

If you think it's bizarre for people to have an opinion on a commercial and discuss on this thread, why bother to take the time to leave a snarky comment? Free time????

DisorganisedOrganiser · 26/04/2019 18:47

I’m with you OP. I found it weird and the undertone was that he was deciding for her whether she should go out.

If you have kids to get back to then it is absolutely really off if your partner just goes straight out without asking but they seemed to be implying they were a hip couple with no dependent kids (no obvious kids’ clutter, no screaming baby) so who is he to say whether she can go out Angry. She should have told him she was going out anyway and to put it in the bloody oven.

Wow. How difficult must life be when someone's mind actually turns even a -cringy but innocent- food commercial into something evil like this.

If there is one ad I would bloody ban it's that shoe screaming one. But that's purely for it's stupidity🙈

CircleofWillis · 27/04/2019 00:48

If there was one advert I would ban it would be the one where a girl makes a meal from the bits and pieces in the fridge because the dad can't work out what to make. At the end he says something like 'you are just like your mother - She can make something out of nothing too". Ungrateful, passive aggressive sod! This is supposed to be funny too.

I’m exhausted at the thought of how hard you’ve had to work to read that interpretation out of the ad, stupid AF though it is.

And I’m a man-hating feminazi.
