It depends on what citeria you use to apply with and what funds the person has .Are you in the uk .Cancer i am pretty sure comes under continuous funded healthcare but dementia doesn't if the person has funds or funds available such as a house to sell then they would have to use that.A social worker that deals in that area would be able to tell you better .

Have you downloaded a copy of the criteria? I would print it out and highlight the key words and see if you think they can be evidenced. It is really tough to get funding though, so try not to pin your hopes too much on it. What are you main reasons for thinking they qualify out of interest?

I may be wrong, but I don't think it goes on diagnosis alone, I think it goes very specifically on how that condition/ disease affects your needs (which are detailed in the assessment form)

You request an assessment, it has multiple parts and several severities for each. You need to prove it is not just social care but medical care that's needed and more than can be provided by the district nursing service. For dementia is has to be fairly advanced for instance

You should ask your local CHC Team to complete whats called a CHC checklist which will determine whether they complete the assessment for continuing health care

You cannot get Free Nursing Care in a residential home as it is to pay for nursing care which isnt provided in a res home. Nursing care is provided by the Community Nurses for people in residential homes.

CHC can be paid in a residential home but its the exception. It is fairly likely that someone who's needs can be managed in a residential home as opposed to a nursing home will not be eligible for CHC.
