To get the rage and not understand this attitude re blue badges

I was reading a post on another site concerning blue badges.
During the discussion several people couldn’t understand why parking was free in car parks for blue badge holders. They felt it should be done on ability to pay as many “disabled people” work.
Aibu to get the rage about this. This is wrong on so many levels. After all having a disability has extra costs and not all car parks are free. Plus I am sure most people would rather be healthy or not have a disability and pay to park.

And there is a special place in hell for the shitheads who padlock their bikes to the pole with the blue badge sign outside our local surgery thereby blocking all access to the driver door of the car parked in the disabled use space beside it. I am considering carrying boltcutters in my car.

"It's not exactly easy to get a blue badge, they don't give them away, so I don't have a problem with free parking"

Tell me about it. Essex County Council wanted DH to travel from Braintree to Dunmow for an assessment for a blue badge renewal. DH isnt well enough to travel that far.
Result.........no renewal. Good job he has a mobility scooter although it was touch and go when our housing association tried to bully him into getting rid of it.
Its a hostile environment for disabled people.

Actually not being able to do this really pisses me off. DS has a fair wallop of issues, one of which means he collapses if he gets too tired. So when hes too tired i cant park him in the Blue badge space that is close enough to maintain intermittent visual contact because thats BB abuse but getting him out to walk might just tip him over the edge. I also can't went hes I'll stick him in the car, park using his BB in visual sight at the pharmacy, grab medicine and leave, because thats also BB abuse

I use the BB space if it means I can leave DD in the car and still see her. I’d argue that case in court if I ever got a ticket.

IMO, there should be a temporary category whereby people got a badge of a different colour for 2 months after hospital admission/treatment affecting mobility such as:

I agree. Some years ago I had a fusion of my big toe. No driving, turkey skewer sticking out of the side of my foot, two crutches for weeks, complete with all number of OT equipment temporarily in the house. The only way I got out was friends taking me out and then they had to dump me at the door, propping up the wall, and try to find a parking space. Two months of disabled parking would have been a godsend and I believe some countries do this.

Try using the pay machines with limited range of
Movement or insert disability. There’s a range of reasons why disabled people didn’t use to have to pay but now most places including my local hospital do make you pay which can be difficult
