To ask if any teachers have actually been helped by their union?

I’m not a teacher although I work in a related field.

A friend of mine recently sustained an injury at work and she has been upset that nothing has been done by her union. Looking into it deeper, it seems they haven’t provided support to many teachers.

Has anybody been helped by their union recently? Or is it a bit of a farce?

I had some great advice and support (and a payout) 15+ years ago BUT I went to the regional office, which was actually very close to where I lived. The school rep was useless so I didn't even bother with them.

I've had 2 involvements with my union. The first time, the guy I had was amazing, completely 100% had my back. The second time, a different guy, he ended up making it worse...

I think it generally depends who you get.

Ancient history 'wining rights' we are now pissing away.

How depressing.

We aren't losing rights because of the unions we are losing rights because of draconian legislation and aggressive management. We have a choice stand and fight or give up and give in.

I feel the same way about women’s rights, and it is incredibly frustrating.

There is a thread abou sick pay.

Teachers contractual sick pay is way above average because of the unions.
