To buy B12 injections online?

Finally found out the reason for my chronic fatigue and lethargy. I’m ferritin and folate deficient as well as borderline B12 deficient.

I feel like absolute shit. So tired I can barely function.

GP won’t give me b12 injections.

AIBU to order them myself online? I can self administer

Sharps box that will be collected by the council. Of course the needles aren't going in the bin

peeblet · 25/04/2019 17:27

I was severely low and have been using the better you b12 sprays. it's tripled my score after 6 months.

Itsmeeloise · 25/04/2019 17:28

YANBU I buy my own supplies and self-inject. I would just not manage without.

Are you saying that even with a diagnosis of PA your GP will not give injections? That is totally against UK guidelines- it's apotentially life threatening condition.

You should have loading doses (3 X per week for 2 weeks) and then it often shifts to every 12 weeks but most can't manage on that.

I suggest you contact the pernicious anemia society in the first instance. There are batshit groups on Facebook but one that is absolutely brilliant.

Injectable B12 is OTC in many European countries and you can buy safely from German online pharmacies.

You must have at least one jab under supervision in case of allergic reaction.

YesQueen · 25/04/2019 17:31

I did also have to pay for sharps boxes until I objected because I was already paying for the prescription

Bringbackthestripes · 25/04/2019 17:32

The pernicious anaemia society have lots of info on ordering online and self injecting. A lot of people on the threads buy from Germany as it is available OTC.

I’m ferritin and folate deficient as well as borderline B12 deficient.

Just re read. You need to improve ferritin and folate levels and see if that improves fatigue. I know our GP’s, if borderline, repeat B12 BT after advising on dietary improvements to see if that affects B12 levels, might be worth trying to see if you feel any better. Have they prescribed ferrous fumerate /folate or advised OTC tablets? Are you vegetarian?

B12 needs Folate so that should be taken alongside

tor8181 · 25/04/2019 19:01

just try feroglobin tablets

carrythecan · 25/04/2019 19:16

I do it. I order it from a chemist in Europe and self administer and use a sharps box for the needles. It's pretty painful, so I put off doing it until I really need to, but then I feel so much better for doing so. It makes a huge difference to my life.

I'd previously tried tablets but they really didn't make any difference to my fatigue. Injectable B12 is freely available over the counter in loads of countries and there is plenty of research backing up why there is a need to inject rather than taking it orally.

Lonecatwithkitten · 25/04/2019 19:17

Have sharps bins at work so that is how I dispose of my needles and syringes go in contaminated waste.

barcodescanner · 25/04/2019 19:21

Carrythecan. Put the ampoule in your bra first to warm it and inject really slowly. Makes so much difference

Greybeardy · 25/04/2019 19:31

slightly off the topic... Please don’t be tempted to do deep injections into abdominal wall as suggested by someone above - it’s a really good way to damage internal organs! Have seen both a belly button ring pierce peritoneum and someone develop necrotising fasciitis after injecting the abdominal wall. You need an awful lot of insulation to inject 1 inch into abdo wall & not risk problems. It’s also pretty hard to damage sciatic nerve from an anterior thigh injection (much easier from a misplaced buttock injection though).

Bringbackthestripes · 25/04/2019 19:47

Agree Greybeardy we only ever inject into deltoid at the surgery, although district nurses sometimes give it in buttock if pt is very frail.

anitagreen · 25/04/2019 19:51

Not sure where you but weirdly enough went past a clinic today and they sell b12 injections administered by a beauty person who does lip fillers , I'm having a mind blank no idea what the proper name for that job is right now sorry

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/04/2019 16:08

I alternate between upper arms and top of thigh (I am v fat though) - I do have to get OH to tension the skin on the upper arm, he shuts his eyes the wuss.

I jab weekly, ive tried less and its no good.

Yes of course I have a sharps bin.

Higgey · 02/07/2020 00:35

I have PA and my b12 injections are stopped by GP. I wondered if someone here can advise where I can buy them safely online for self administer. Help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Higgey · 02/07/2020 00:41

What is the address in Germany that supplies the b12 injections.

Furries · 02/07/2020 03:31

@Higgey - before you go down that route, please contact the Pernicious Anaemia Society. They will try to help you get your medication reinstated. If you have PA, then your treatment should not be stopped, it is for life. Sadly, there is no cohesion between local medical authorities as to when this happens. But please try to get the society to help you - it will seem a drain on your resources of energy maybe, but pushing back and advocating for yourself is important. It’s crap that they’ve done this to you and I really hope you can get it resolved - there is no way this should have been taken away from you, am so sorry you’re dealing with this.

dontdisturbmenow · 02/07/2020 07:03

Go for it. I've been self injecting for 2 years now, it's absolutely fine if you do.it properly and order from a reputable chemist.

dontdisturbmenow · 02/07/2020 07:04

Just to add I inject in upper arm every 5 to 7 weeks. I know when I need it so don't keep track of the days I inject.

airforsharon · 13/07/2020 17:14

Higgey I'm in the same boat. I don't have PA but have had 3 monthly B12 injections for a couple of years. I was really unwell before i started on them & worried about getting to that stage again. I'm waiting for a letter of 'instructions' to arrive from the GP, so will see what they say, but receptionist confirmed this afternoon they won't be offering jabs any more.
Seems crazy i can now get my hair or nails done or go out for a meal or drink, but can't get a vital jab to prevent permanent nerve or heart damage :/
