What helps? I have strong painkillers but I really need to get and knock this on the head ASAP.

Any supplements/water pills/fairy dusts that help?

I know rest is the number one recommendation. I have two small kids and no help nearby so that's not really that achievable.

Ooooooodles of fresh lemon and (manuka) honey drinks.

I find it comforting, it gets your fluids up, and there's lots of vitamin C in the lemon and I swear the honey is healing and soothing!

Poor you, it's an awful illness Flowers

BumpIntheNite · 25/04/2019 15:42

Also a bit woo maybe but I use Bee Propolis tablets from Holland & Barrett. I don't know if it's psychological but they help my immunity bounce back.

Propolis. On it!

After 10 years of seriously being ill with ME after having Glandular Fever I wished I’d rested more. I was a single parent of a toddler, working and just moved into new house so decorating etc. I obviously couldn’t stop basic child care but there was loads I could have put off. Take care of yourself

Sirzy · 25/04/2019 21:39

Can someone come and help with the children or even take them for a few days?

You really do need to rest, I had GF was I was 15 and was out of action for 6 months and pretty much bedbound for the first month or more

TheDarkPassenger · 25/04/2019 21:39

I had to work through mine too as I was running a hotel. I spent most of the time slumped on the chair at reception trying not to pass out. I should have rested, it lasted ages and 2 years on my energy levels are still not right. Please please please rest

Dana28 · 25/04/2019 21:39

You sound as though you are Looking for a way to push through it instead ofResting and letting the illness take its course. Sounds like you are setting yourself up for post viral syndrome

Purplepjs · 25/04/2019 21:39

As above, find ways to rest. Rest rest rest. And even when you feel better, you must be as gentle on yourself as possible for the year ahead really; it can take a long time to stop lurking in the background, if that makes sense. Best wishes, you have my sympathy, it really is horrible.

bumblebee1987 · 25/04/2019 21:46

Cry, cry and cry some more. GF is utterly vile, and you have my total sympathy. I don't think anyone who hasn't had it actually realises how awful it is.

I second what others have said though, it is so so so important that you rest, or you will get post viral syndrome, which is awful. My brother and I had it at the same time (I realise how odd that sounds, haha!) and he carried on doing too much, ended up admitted to hospital for a week, and it took about a year to fully recover, whereas I was relatively back to normal after a few months.

Jenb2104 · 25/04/2019 21:49

Honestly, I didn't find anything that helped. My gp prescribed codeine and I was told to sleep and rest as much as possible. I was off work for 4 months and I didn't feel 100% better for about a year. Luckily I didn't have any dc at the time.
It really does know you for six, you have my sympathy!
Take care

fanciedabitofachange · 26/04/2019 15:03

I can only sleep and rest when my DCs let me! I am not pushing myself beyond nursery pickups and occasional drive thru trips. Yes I probably will get PVF but I have nobody to help me, so I have to work with what I have here.

Loaaaaaaaaaaaads of water. I ended up on a drip in hosp for 2 weeks! I managed to contract Strep 1 at the same time.

I don't have any DC, however rest is imperative for recovery! I'm not sure how badly you have been hit with it, but I was knackered for up to 1 year after!

fanciedabitofachange · 26/04/2019 15:16

This is all I can do:

Sleep when my kids sleep
Eat as well as possible
Drink lots
Take multivitamin + supplements etc

I just wondered what supplements might help. Definitely going to try propolis.
